Been telling these jits for yearsss to play a different position. But in optimist to high school, RB is still the glamour position.. I think once they get the memo that will really be death kneel.. Once NFL teams started going RB by committee the writing was on the wall.. :francis:

It's funny because the guys that these teams are replacing their RBs with are clearly worse players.

The cut RBs get picked up by teams who have no intention of actually playing them real snaps and therefore further tank their value. Vicious cycle.

I'm almost thinking there will need to be rule changes that accomodate RBs at this point

You have to look at it from the FO side too. Nobody wants to get Todd Gurleyd or Trent Richardsonnd :mjlol:

The wild part about this is they're still cool with overpaying Daniel Jones or Ryan Tannehill or Kirk Cousins vs paying an actual proven elite RB more than $12 million per year. Jimmy G on his 4th big ass contract and about to have Raider fans punching the air during the season.

It's all bullshyt. It's not actually justifiable. Kyler Murray had to do a press campaign to get the Cardinals to remove a COD clause and still got paid.

I agree with @010101 . I think the easing of the passing game and further protection of QBs helped make the league more of a QB driven league to keep white audiences more interested. As a result, passing became more efficient than in previous years and made the running game less important.

The running game is just as important as it ever was. Leaning on a star RB for 300 carries and dropping a bag on him is whats gone out of style

I was reading their tweets yesterday and can't really bad for those dudes.

And it got me to thinking...

The career expectancy of a RB is insanely low. Is that because of the abuse they take or is this some sort of lie that's been pushed by the league to phase them out of the game?
It's really the 2nd, there's plenty of RBs forced to retire that ended on good seasons, and the fans have been conditioned to feel that they were "washed"

This is bullshyt. Some running backs have shown how valuable they are and they don't all grow on trees. McCaffrey completely changed the 49ers offense when he arrived and he did everything running, blocking and pass receiving and did it well. He'd also line up everywhere.

Yeah thats why hes the highest paid RB. That doesnt apply to majority of other RBs though

Brehs in here are being disingenuous about it. Fact of the matter is RB's take the most punishment and can usually be replaced easily if you have a good blocking scheme. Teams split carries so why pay a RB like a bonafide #1 when you're giving 2 different backs significant carries. I saw this whole ordeal coming years ago and so should've others

:dead:

That said, we’ve seen teams have 2 or 3 LT’s and a game manager qb and not go anywhere. Even “just above mediocre” at qb is way more valued (unfortunately) than paying like a whole group of cheap early versions of prime Derrick Henrys to just keep a stable of 3 down backs to throw at any defense.

It’s kinda like starting pitchers in baseball and their arms - there’s only so much tread on these guys tires and they’re one bad hit from being a shadow of their former selves. Look at Demarco Murray, guy won OPOTY at 26 and was completely DONE as a player by 28-29
