if you could draft a QB in the 5th round and plug and play him, QBs would be paid less too

the RB talent pool is just crazy deep. I feel for these RBs too, but from a roster mgmt standpoint, it doesnt make much sense to tie big money to a RB after their rookie deal
i understand the business perspective

it's a tough position but rbs as a collective will have to address it

some squads are carried by rbs & when that is the case they should get what they worked for

You're correct it was the premier position but time has shown that RBs are replaceable and splitting carries is the way to go. Broncos showed us hints of this 20 years ago and over time its proven to be true.

That run they had from Terrell Davis to Clinton Portis was crazy looking back

I think the NFLPA has to try to kill the franchise tag next CBA. It's giving the team's too much control for too long. You get a 5 year deal plus you can tag them twice so 7 years of control on a 21 year old RB fresh out of college. If you hold out they'll just draft a new one. Now you got really good RBs like Cook out on the street and Mixon taking pay cuts to keep their jobs.
That’s not going to happen unless the players give up something major in return.

Problem is these teams figured out the difference between an elite RB and a 'good enough' RB isn't that vast that you need to pay a premium for it.

For what used to be the glamour position the running back has been devalued to the point that slot receivers are considered more valuable these days. Something has to give with the hits they take but the Gurley and Zeke contracts all but guaranteed that not to many more backs would be getting that type of money. At the end of the day if you are a kid with dreams of making the NFL and getting paid RB ain't the way to go but at the same time it's the spot that allows you to touch the ball the most which is what most kids want.

Yeah it really is when you go back and break it down. I was pissed when we traded Portis too but it didnt take my long to realize it was the right move.

We really had a different random ass player hitting 1000 yds every season :pachaha:

Does the NFL have player options like the NBA? I can't remember.

I feel like they should make the last 2 years of the 4 year rookie contract be player options. So if a dude balls out in years 1 and 2, he's free to test free agency at age 23/24 by declining the option.

Y'all had the likes of Olandis Gary, Reuben Droughns, and Tatum Bell putting up 1,000-yrd. rushing seasons. :mindblown:

Hell, Mike Anderson was converted from FB to RB, and even he did the same. :damn:

That Zone Blocking Scheme of Alex Gibbs allowed damn-near ANYONE to eat. :whew:

This is my problem. On one hand we are told RBs are a dime of dozen and worth a bag of chips. On the other hand, they're worth high draft capitol. CMC got traded for a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round pick. I assume the Chargers want something similar for Ekeler. High draft resources for a great RB. So...if that's what a top ten RB is worth...what's the 20th best RB worth? And how come a top ten RB is worth the same MONEY as a far worse RB, but a top ten RB is worth far more draft picks?

Change the game
To 7 on 7

No running back or hand offs. Passes behind the line of scrimmage are acceptable

Less linemen, more skill positions

Make the league from discarded running backs that were “past their prime”

Might as well just have them play flag football while we're at it!
