I like Allen but he git way too reckless in the second half of the season, the whole team did. That Von injury altered their trajectory. Allen is the real deal but he's got plenty of room to grow...
This is actually a really dope comparison...
The AFC is so loaded with young QBs. Mahomes was here first abd was the first to climb the mountain, so he deserves the benefit of the doubt. But it's still way early to know who is gonna be who...
Mahomes himself is only in Y6. Allen just finished Y5. Burrow and Herbert are finishing Y3...
That isn't even to mention a few others who could potentially force their names into this class: Deshaun (Y6); Lamar (Y5); Tua (Y3); Trevor (Y2); Pickett (Y1)...
That's NINE QBs in Y6 or shorter that all still likely have their ceilings in front of them. I've long said the 00s and 10s were the golden age of pro football quarterbacking, but The League has never been this stacked in one conference, ever. It's unbelievable...
Point being, Mahomes gets the benefit of the doubt because he did everything first, so everyone else is chasing him, but thats more a factor of age as much as anything else. If, and it's a big if, but if he's outplayed by Burrow in two consecutive AFCCGs, are we still of the mind that Burrow is the inferior of the two? Allen's big issue is inconsistency, at his absolute best, last year divisional round, he is as great as Mahomes, play for play. He's only in Y5, plenty of room to improve, if he ever matches Mahomes' consistency, what happens?
It's in style today to act as if Deshaun is a nobody, but his first four seasons were absolutely brilliant, he was at worst a step behind Mahomes in productivity. If he ever regains that form, where are we putting him? A whole lotta posters on here are Lamar Stans, if he is who yall think he is, then what happens?
All these guys are young. Mahomes has the lead because he was here first but no one has separated from the pack yet. I do like the quartet comp, those were the Big 4 AFC guys of the Golden Era, my only thing is we don't know who the 4 will be. But the 4 you named are strong bets...
goddammit....
Are we sure the Bengals aren't the top dog?
