Not sure if it was ai they used to remake Call Tyrone during the end credits, but it would be an interesting layer to add to the movie

What year is this movie supposed to be taking place in? :what:
Obviously 1999 and the 2000s

*plays soulful back that ass up*

I think its not supposed to have an exact time.

However, if I had to guess I'd think it was early 2010s or late 2000s
The director or somebody said there is no exact timeline. This has been done in film before. It’s done on purpose to signify the general point of the movie could be anywhere or anytime since the 70s. It doesn’t matter what time it is because we been going through the same shyt for decades. Them mentioning bitcoin, 50 cent, and Jamie winning that award in 1995 were a couple blatant points of them showing the time didn’t matter.

Watching it a second time rn, because i fell asleep on it the first due to starting it too late a few nights back :flabbynsick: . Great blend of sci fi and social commentary. I really like this lane that black cinema seems to be finding itself in currently. Definitely worth a sticky @hex

2nd watch made me like it more

Its a mix of a bunch of time periods. It's meant to be ambiguous but like someone was saying things in the hood don't really change so they just take bit and pieces from different time periods (IE Jamie Foxx's character, Fontaine's car, them talking about the Suburban/Tahoe that all the young rappers get when they get money, Blockchain and bitcoin mentions, flip phones)
Like I said the time period or reality isn't the point. I guess it can be looked at as an alternative reality where all of the realities are mixed with the issues in the black community from the 70s-2020s.

Meh, wasn’t all that great imo. I think the mashup of all those genres was ambitious but in the end like another poster said I was neither sufficiently taken to a comedy space or a suspense space as a viewer. The only thing that kept me watching was to get to the point of the whole movie. If I had to pin it, I think it’s cuz I’m not the biggest fan of the Jordan Peele flicks and other films of that same vain.

I also wasn’t a big fan of the script. I feel like for the premise being what it was it should’ve been more dynamic with the dialogue. Maybe it’s me, but it felt like they were going for social media meme home runs. Most people are easily impressed/amused so I’m sure they’ve succeeded on that front. Also the timeline shifted too much for me, I had to suspend my belief a little too much for this film to work for me.

It wasn’t horrible either, I think the cinematography was fantastic. I did like the overall message/symbolism of the film. I’m interested in seeing what else the film maker will be putting together in the future.

Perfectly fine junk sci fi. Once Foxx and Parris dial it down a notch and let the plot kick into gear, it gets into gear.

Me and my friend watched this high and were giggling all the way through it. There were a few parts where it felt like it dragged, but I can't tell if that was because of the edibles or because of the pacing. I think overall, it was innovative, fresh, funny where it needed to be and surprisingly poignant in places. The cast all played well against each other. I would love to see these three in a series based on this idea. Need to watch it again but for now, I'm giving this a 8/10.
