I don't understand it either, but obviously they don't care or they would have made an exception to the filibuster to pass voting rights or at the very least make an attempt and dare Sinema and Manchin to vote against it.

They literally did that and Manchin and Sinema did vote against it. :dwillhuh:

Again, I don't disagree that something should be done, I'm just looking for a viable method of getting this type of stuff past the Senate.

Talking to workers is great don't get me wrong, but it's not a strategy for getting legislation past Congress.
I am not thinking about the current crop of legislators. My point is about the next crop and the crop after. It's a long game. Dems problem is that they have been focused on the immediate.

Check what candidates are running on in 2022, those issues plus climate change are what animate the Dem donor base the most.
Yeah fam, I am about the action. I don't see it.

The American public likes to think they're smarter and less gullible than they really are. All it takes is a good ad campaign to flip public sentiment on ANY issue.

This country got sold the Iraq invasion when all you needed to do was watch 30 minutes of news to know it was bullshyt. We went from "get the fukk out of Afghanistan" to "oh no we should have stayed LONGER" and all it took was some consistent messaging from Republicans.

Did you know during that period, the Dems never lost the House of Representatives and had control of the Senate from 87-95? US Governors were also majority Dems for the 80s.

Family, they don't care.

The only thing donors care about are gay rights because many of them are gay and rich. THe other shyt don't matter. There has been no legislative movement on abortion rights, voter rights and others.

To be fair, Dem numbers were inflated until the 90s by the presence of conservative southern Dems.

Conservative southern politicians starting switching from Dem to Republican in the 60s, but the switch didn't really become complete until the 90s.

Oh I know. What also happened in the same time is the neoliberals entered the party and triangulation became a key. Whites fell for racism because it's gold to them, but there wasn't a counter of economic upliftment. Instead some dems leaned in on cism—like Clinton and Biden did—and then went back on phony wokeness.

A lot of this stemmed from the US shipping industrial jobs overseas in starting in the 70s and removing itself from the industrial powers.

You have to accept that the fact that the average white persons instinct is to be racist and selfish and form your political theories around that fact.

Whites folks don't really want all these liberal programs to benefit minorities and especially black folks.

It sounds ignorant but it's the truth:yeshrug:

Came across this recently

The loudest have the final say,
The wanton win, the rash hold sway,
The realist's rules of order say
The drunken driver has the right of way.

The Kubla Khan can butt in line;
The biggest brute can take what's mine;
When heavyweights break wind, that's fine;
No matter what a judge might say,
The drunken driver has the right of way.

The guiltiest feel free of guilt;
Who care not, bloom; who worry, wilt;
Plans better laid are rarely built
For forethought seldom wins the day;
The drunken driver has the right of way.

The most attentive and unfailing
Carefulness is unavailing
Wheresoever fools are flailing;
Wisdom there is held at bay;,
The drunken driver has the right of way.

De jure is de facto's slave;
The most foolhardy beat the brave;
Brass routs restraint; low lies high's grave;
When conscience leads you, it's astray;
The drunken driver has the right of way.

It's only the naivest who'll
Deny this, that the reckless rule;
When facing an oncoming fool
The practiced and sagacious say
Watch out — one side — look sharp — gang way.

However much you plan and pray,
Alas, alack, tant pis, oy vey,
Now — heretofore — til Judgment Day,
The drunken driver has the right of way.

Excerpted from 'The Drunken Driver Has The Right Of Way' by Ethan Coen.

What is “wtf?”

The idea that their donors only care about gay rights. Had you said "Their donors only care about getting favortism and kick backs for their companies/personal life" I'd be in agreement. Y'all got a lil too overboard with the homophobia stuff on here. LGBTQ are under assualt in pretty much every red state. Congress which is in control by democrats could easily do something to fix that and haven't lifted a finger. Remember Gay Marriage was made legal by the SCOTUS not congress. The idea that gay people run the country or party is stupid.

I am not being homophobic. I didn't say gays shouldn't have rights. My point was that gay men are like the most affluent group of people in this country and thus have a lot of power to sway politicians. I am also not saying gay people run the country. I said donors run the legislature.

The only LGBTQA+ rights that are under assault are the rights for trans people, which aren't an affluent group.

:russ:The idea that gay men have more power than straight white conservative males in this country is just... COMON UR BETTER THAN THIS. That's COLI TLR talk and not grounded in reality at all

We had a sitting senator yesterday bytching about gay marriage being legal among other things (interracial marriage, access to birth control etc) they've done this before. They're telling you what the SCOTUS is looking to take down next my guy. We have Florida legislators that won't even allow you to acknowledge gay people exist in schools. So because Trans people are under assault that doesnt matter. "well it's only that one group of gays" don't be naive and act like you don't see where this is all going. There were over 250 anti LGBTQ laws signed by legislators last year. This aint just trans people my guy
