For those happy

What the fukk does this solve

You get 4 teams chosen by a comitee who arbitrarily choose who is better based on imaginary stregnths of schedule and the score and eye test of games they probaby didnt watch through.

The problem isnt about team 1 and 2; theyre undefeated most likely

But teams 3,4,5,6? they all have one loss most likely

So, if its:

LSU 13-0 (champ)
USC 12-1 (champ)
Texas 11-2 (champ)
Georgia 12-1 (only loss to lsu)
Michigan 12-1 (champ)
Bama 10-2 (only losses to ga and lsu)
Fsu 11-2 (champ)
Notre dame 10-2

Who gets chosen?

I'll tell you who

Lsu
Usc
BAMA
And GEORGIA

TEXAS, michigan, fsu, and the big east champ just get bids to bowls which NOW matter less because theyre in a virtual losers bracket, and the paper champs move on to the paper tournement. There is no point of these conference title games now.

This solves nothing. If anything it makes the selection more bullshyt, and the #5 team gets no chance for nothing

:stopitslime: you act like michigan dont get love and wont get thrown in there. in your scenario it'd be LSU, Texas, USC and UM 9/10

No. 2006 has PROVEN that CBS and the SEC WILL LOBBY and influence their teams into the title game. Do you REALLY think they will fail convincing a mystery group of dudes that 2 or even 3 sec teams belong in the top 4?

This is a joke. I cant believe the big ten, acc, and big 12 are with this...

A step in the right direction, would like to see the playoffs expanded so it would be possible for non major conference teams to win

not with other traditional powerhouses in the mix. now say it's michigan st, arizona st, and whoever is in the big 12 now days then you'll see the influence come out.
i agree that this isn't gonna be much better than the BCS but you just gave a bad scenario :manny:

When they expand it to at least eight, I'll watch college football seriously again.

Of course the ATL
I'm waiting to see how they will select the 4 teams & what the structure & location of the 4 teams will be before I get too worked up over it. That said, this is a step in the right direction...4 teams will probably end up moving to 8 or 16 teams when it's all said & done

Let's keep in mind that this 4 team playoff will probably have a selection committee comprised of members from every mid & major conference, ADs, Presidents, etc. It'll be similar to how they select the NCAA Men's basketball tournament so IDK why you feel like any other conference is getting slighted.

If anything we would've had a better system in place if your conference & the Pac 12 hadn't waited so long to get off your Rose Bowl high horse that delayed this process to begin with.

Gizz is spot on with his anger...Notre Dame was key ally along with Slive of being against what the PAC 12 suggested of conf. champs only because you know they want to keep their independence...how do people consider Texas a ratings juggernaut?? Yea they have their on network but do you know anyone outside of the state of Texas with it?? Hell there are markets in TX that don't even offer the Longhorn network...maybe in the long run they'll see some $$ and exposure from it but as of now that shyt is a complete failure

if you think mid-majors will have a seat at the selection process table, wake up...they may get their token slot like on the BCS committee but they won't any position of power (and maybe they don't deserve it but i'm looking at this with all things being equal)

i think some of the stuff i heard was Big X wanted home semi's but SEC didn't & Pac 12 wanted conf champs only or something like that...on a sidenote, i'm finding this Big 12/SEC alliance kinda fishy

Conference champs only was never going to be the best solution for this playoff. The 4 team playoff shoud be the best 4 teams in the nation. Period. If you think a 8-4 Big East Champion is better than a 11-1 SEC/Big 10/Big 12/Pac 12 team you're delusional.

Why would I be delusional to think that the selection committee will have members from different conferences (majors & mids) or that they'll be powerless in that committee?

The home semi's wouldve been dope except you'll have winter weather in most of the country in early January. Having these semi finals in a warm weather or dome stadim ensures the best quality of football, which i think that's what we're all looking for.

How is Big 12/SEC alliance "fishy"? Same could be said for Big 10/Pac 12

That's why like ADD said, just a band aid...should be 8 teams (Big 6 conf champs and MWC & Independents can get in if they are ranked at a certain...if not, 2 wild cards). Hell most of you would put in a 2 loss SEC/Big X team over an undefeated Boise St back in the day when they showed you they can hang

Why would I be delusional to think that the selection committee will have members from different conferences (majors & mids) or that they'll be powerless in that committee?

Because the BCS committee is your proof...MWC commish has a seat at that table and he has Boise St and yet, he hasn't been able to yield any type of influence/power to even get them in a BCS game with one lost..

meh with that quality of football argument..football is/was meant to be played in the elements...and the thing with the Big X/Pac 12 alliance is, they've had that alliance for a gang of years..it just didn't pop up out the blue

sounds like they'll be like basketball with a selection committee but it won't help anything. it'll still be an argument and disagreement on who should be in and some people will complain when a small school goes undefeated or has 1 loss and is still not in it.

Yes but we will never have a situation like we had in 04 with Auburn again. It could be better. I think 8 teams would be the perfect number, however it could also be worse as we have seen over the years. At least some progress is being made.

If theyre using this for the top 4 teams in the BCS I like it. Keep everyone under still doing bowls then make the two playoff games the rose and orange and then the bcs championship. Football wins again.

This is what I thought the whole idea was going to lead to. The selection committee process is going cause way more controversy
