Brehs need to be building their nest egg up, there is a difference between WANTING to work after retirement age and NEEDING to work after retirement age. True, most people don't just want to sit in their house all day after retirement but alternatives can include traveling, hobbies, and volunteering in addition to working. Brehs also can't account for health issues that can make working significantly more difficult or impossible and retirement may be forced on you because of it. If your job isn't paying enough to save, find ways to get to a higher paying job, a second job or cut back expenses now.

Retirement is cool on paper, statistically people die within a decade of retirement most won’t speak on that though
Yep and most of the folks I know who retired never did shyt but sit around because they were too old. I get how it is supposed to work but from that standpoint it comes across as a scam. Shout out to the folks I know who went on cruises and traveled. They made it look fun!

I mean financially if you can get the bag here in america why would you wanna retire here? You know you still have to pay taxes, property taxes and such bullshyt when you already adjusted for a fixed income... ???:dahell: when the pandemic happened all those old retirees was fukked when property values skyrocketed and they couldn't keep up with the taxes...

If I can hold onto our starter home to rent out indefinitely then that will fuel our retirement since it’s almost paid off. We can take out a heloc and buy additional properties as well. Next year is our first tax return where our llc will be involved so. I’m interested to see what that will look like.

I guess that makes sense but I’d have to see the numbers. I’m positive more Americans retired in DR than Colombia of all places. Anyone concerned about crime in DR opting for Colombia is an idiot. No other way to put it :deadrose:

Colombia is exponentially more dangerous than DR. Crime in DR is hardly random. Colombia it’s random. There’s a difference.

As for the makeup of the expats that must be just black expats. All the white ones are either American or Canadian. You’d have to sit on Cabarete beach for awhile to pick that and visit the restaurants in town.

Terrenas is amazing and has some of the best beaches off the beaten path. French have been there for decades.‘go further to Las Galeras and there’s a community of Swiss
Yeah Colombia is different beast, dude mentioned Cartagena of all places :mjlol:

I’d be cool with having a vacation home their, but nothing serious. I wouldn’t rent it out either. In Colombia you gotta move a certain way, at all times.
