Right now, nah, but in 5 years from I'll be closer. It's just something you have to remain consistent at.

I also don't have a traditional idea of retirement. IRA's and 401k's are more long-term investing strategies, but I want to stop working at age 50, so I have a more mid-term investing strategy as well.

At the end of the day a combination of making more money and keeping a modest lifestyle is key and it can take a while to develop a good set of financial habits and that's where I feel the focus should be.

@Magic Mulatto what do you mean with this statement?
What I mean is..I don’t care about finding my “purpose”. I don’t need a set of goals. I don’t have a bucket list. Don’t need to be connected to some group or activity or pursuit. No desire to be involved w/ the community or remain a productive member of society.

I’m quite content w/ just basically existing as this free-spirited individual who was never ascribed a profession at conception or birth…

Let me have walls and a roof..A little bit of food per week..clean, fresh, cold, crisp, potable drinking water along w/ access to TheColi and I’m good…

How much money do you need to make per year to live that lifestyle?

Stay healthy! It's hard to enjoy retirement when your health gets poor. Plus if that happens, a lot of other countries won't even take you in. I had several buddies who are retired, that I wanted to travel overseas with just to see how the country was, plus for safety reasons. But their health status won't allow them in as residence. Unfortunately, I'm not in touch with two of these older retired buddies anymore. At one point I thought they had passed on, since they stopped returning calls, and they both have life threatening health conditions...not to mentioned they retired with little or next to nothing. But I found out this summer that the older of the two was alive and kicking, and back at his residence. I believe the other one is doing well too, since he disappeared before for no obvious reason. Come to think of it, they both done this before, but not like this time.

Anyway, if you're one of those who retired well (have a house or apartment, have a house that's paid off, have enough to travel on, drive a decent car, still able to get around, etc...), expect to see a lot of old friends in your age group or older, who retired, gradually disappear out of envy, except the ones who can't retire, or retired so poor they can't afford a room on their own, and they keep in touch with you for security purposes. Most of these brothers had little to no education pass high school, and they had drug problems off and on.

But these aren't the only ones that will show you envy. You will see it from people you'd least expect. But most of the time, it will be because of the main fact you're retired, and they're not, and it's worst when they're older than you, especially if they're at retirement age, and see no way of retiring anytime soon. But those who retire, but still can't handle the fact that you retired well, and they didn't. like my two buddies, to the point they will disappear on you; although it's good to know they're still here :camby:
