1. She is a judge. Understand that when they define things it has far reaching implications. They don't have the liberty of shooting from the hip or looking at things from a narrow point of view.
They need to consider the intent of the legislators, secondary interpretations, the mischief law makers sought to correct, wider implications of their decision.
She might have her views on the matter but it is not something she can answer without proper consideration.
2. When you move up in the world, you will realise that a large part of conversions is maintaining control of it.
