People don't get the point of this discussion.

No one gives much of a shyt about how the characters treated blacks, it's how the show itself wrote a lot of these black characters. So many of them are paper thin, cringe worthy stereotypes.

It's not about the italians behavior, it's about the blacks depiction.

Pretty much. I remember catching an episode where was doing some drug deal under a bridge with black people....and they showed up like it was a nelly video, big chains bracelets big rims and all kinds of ridiculousness . nikkas dont move like that on real street business shyt, period. This supposed an "intelligent" tv show, not a rap video. Couldn't even entertain the show after that. Yall arguing about n trying to justify ****** this ****** that....whatever on that. Black folks str8 up cartoon characters on this.

Its kinda ironic because because I have a few Italian friends who see the Sopranos like a damn minstrel show. Its an interesting dynamic.

I think other part of it is that Tony has had a fairly complicated relationship with Black people in general because he clearly inherited that racism from his dad and uncle and despite dealing with the lower rung with folk he's also had cordial relationships with some was well. Hence the guilt when seeing Uncle Ben.

The only race related aspect of this show I liked was the episode where the mobsters beat the shyt out of each other, then blamed it on a nonexistent Black person. ( I think that episode was called unidentified Black male. Blaming Black people for anything and everything is American culture in a nutshell) then another episode where AJ sees a bunch of Italian thugs beat the fukk out of an African kid. I like that the writers acknowledge THAT part of Italian street culture, the part where random Black men get mobbed and beaten in the streets for having the audacity to walk or drive through an Italian neighborhood.

Never fukked with this show and its portayal of black people. nikkas try to hold this up beside The Wire, and I just nope they ass out they conversation.

If they wanted to, there could have been positive and good Black people on the show rather than all of them for the most part either getting bytched out, or being fukked up and stupid.:camby:

:salute:

the strawman arguments built to defend the show and ignore the actual point are :whew: -worthy

Exactly.

I just think of Jackie Aprile being heated that Meadow fukked that mixed black cat with the gay tendencies. Then he got killed by Vito and they blamed it on Blacks in the projects...and wanted Meadow to believe it. I always thought Meadow should of turned wholesale on them by actually catching them all in the act of a murder(Tony and Chris both).

Well I got a couple thoughts on this topic I think when a lot of you are not seeingIs that the director/writer had a lot of subliminals in the show you have to look at the sports scene in which Tony and the family muscle them selves on Tony’s kids friends business that scene showed Tony is a predator and his greed knows no bounds Tony was a racist because Italian culture is anti black and American culture in its self is anti black and encourages that thought process and rhetoric

no matter how mad meadow got at Tony, she stayed on code. I’m sure Rosalie, Meadow and even Carmella knew Jackie wasn’t murdered by drug dealers. But that’s the way it goes.

I don't think any of the women had any idea that Jackie and the boys tried to stick up the poker game like Tony/Jackie Sr. years back, so there wouldn't be much reason for them to believe Tony had him done.

Still you're totally right that Meadow was part of the "family"
