But it’s not that simple, Wojnarowski notes. First, the Lakers likely want something coming back their way in addition to the luxury tax savings they get. Maybe just a second round pick, but something. Secondly, the Nets have a full roster of 15 guaranteed players, so they have to cut someone (and still pay him) to make room on the roster.

More importantly, this is a very expensive move for the Nets. Very expensive. They are so far over the luxury tax line that taking on Hill’s $3.5 million salary equals $17 million in taxes, Wojnarowski reports. I know Mikhail Prokhorov is willing to spend, but there is spending smart and then there is spending $17 million to have Jordan Hill come off your bench.

The Lakers are pretty much open to moving anyone not named Kobe Bryant off their roster. But this is an example of why the trade deadline is tight this year, making any kind of deal has become hard.

David Simon: Kobe, Nash and Sacre are the only players locked into next year’s roster, though I think they’ll pick up Marshall’s option ($915K) and Nick Young will probably opt out to test the market. Since everyone else is unrestricted, are there other guys on the current roster who you’d be surprised to see in anything other than a Laker uniform next year? Anyone the team feels is an important piece moving forward?

Dave McMenamin: The three guys that I think have a good shot are Jordan Farmar, Jodie Meeks and Ryan Kelly. Farmar, because the Lakers know him and like him and realize he sacrificed $3 million in Turkey to come to L.A. this season. Meeks because he can probably be had at a reasonable price and he’s improved dramatically from last year to this year. And Kelly because L.A. already invested a draft pick on him, plus a ton of time developing him and 7-foot shooters are hard to come by. That’s not to say that Xavier Henry, Wes Johnson, Steve Blake and Jordan Hill have no chance of returning, I just think there are bigger hurdles for them – Henry’s health, Johnson’s inconsistency, Blake’s price tag and Hill’s oil/water fit with D’Antoni. Chris Kaman, safe to say, will not be brought back.

Nope, and we won't be anytime soon due to Kobe's contract and with how bad the front office has been as of late. Best case scenario, we get the number one pick and we end up with Embiid, but more likely, we will end up with either Wiggins/Parker/Exum/Enes due to how bad this team is. But, as long as Durant & Bron are still playing, we are realistically in that predicament when Jordan was 3-peating in the late 90's, which is we will probably be a 2nd round at best squad in the playoffs that could be dangerous. The front office are not fans of Melo, he could have been had in 2011 if we traded Bynum for him, but Jim Buss wanted to save trading Bynum for Howard instead. We will probably have to do 1 year deals again to get Love for 2015, and in 2016 they should have a shyt load of cap space when Kobe retires. Lakers are eying Durant, but no chance at all he comes here, so that's what our future is looking like. :beli:
