The issue is..the general public in the west are just getting the mainstream news, which favours the the west and against Putin. All the media from the Russia side are blocked, but Russian citizens inside Russia have access to it.
It is difficult to say how these sanctions are actually impacting the Russians without bias. If you want news from both sides, you really have to dig for it, they make you work for that.

Look at the moves against Russia now, vs when this first started.

Russians have not used air support for their columns as they did in Syria.They're going in much lighter but are also making good strides.
