I don't think AMD is trying to tank in the GPU market, I think they realized they didn't have the R&D budget to compete with both NVIDIA and Intel.

They had to right the ship with their CPUs before they could do anything.

Looking back, buying ATI might have been a bad thing.

I wonder how the PC space would be if the AMD had bought NVIDIA instead before settling on ATI.
AMD butchered the ATI brand. ATI cards used to be some of the best cards of the gen, period. I remember when the 5870 was considered the best card out. I had one, and it was truly groundbreaking. It introduced eyefinity, was amazing at mining, and was very powerful. After that, AMD went all budget and shytty. After the 5870, it went all downhill. There hasn’t been an AMD card that I’ve even been mildly interested in since the 5870. Nvidia straight took over the enthusiast market :whew:

I didn’t realize you got that monitor. Nice. Definitely exchange it. For $2K it better be perfect
Was in the midst of moving, didn't have a proper place to really sit down and try it out for the past 2 weeks. You forget how bad 1080 or even 1440 is compared to 4K but with 4K/60hz you can't really play fps competitively :banderas:
But the gloomy issue is highly noticeable which is my complaint.

I mean I want nvidia to really give them a challenge the current lineup from AMD is embarrassing. If the Vega cards were let's say 10%-15% better than the 1070 and 1080. I'd understand but they missed the ballpark with it. The only reason to buy Vega is for mining while you aren't gaming, machine/deep/rendering and 3440x1440 gaming monitors are 30% cheaper compared to g sync. It's not even a major jump from the 390x line, which is what is really bothering to me.

Agreed even though I would say the r9 series was good too but the msrp pricing compared to nvidia once again embarrassing. I remember dropping serious bread to buy quad r9 270x and 2 fury X (700 dollars at the time). Even the nano was like 650 dollars :heh:

They would be close to half the price in the following year on the used market:francis:

Um, it's hard to compete with two companies worth much more money that your own. And even though the 5870 was great, the GTX 480/580 still sold more, meaning the consumers are blindly supporting one side.

And that :whew:, isn't good for consumers.

I think focusing on HBM memory was a mistake and sticking with the GCN architecture they've been using since HD 7000 series.

I finally got to use the full power of my 10-core i9....converting x265 4K video files to mp4 4K video files, so they can play on my X1X :whew:

Yeah, that was worth $1K :pachaha:

I start doing higher core task just because I want to see the cpu running at 100% :russ:

Goddamn, you can have outrageous GPU and CPU power, and it still takes 30 some odd minutes to convert a 1hour long H.265 video to H.264 in Adobe Media Encoder CC. :snoop:

I don't even want to know what it's like with lesser components :merchant:

They would crash and need to be restarted. Why are you converting so much videos?

I miss those days of CPU struggling to push through heavy task. Now we just take it for granted

I’m trying to watch American Gods at 2160p. Unfortunately, in the US, the show is only streamable at 1080p. The only 4K source is from the UK. I had to torrent the episodes, and they’re all HVEC H.265. None of my shyt can play it, except my PC. I want to watch it off my Xbox One X, but only H.264 works. I’ve been trying free conversion programs, but none of them work. Then, I remembered that, with my Adobe CC account, I had a media converter program. I just started to use that like an hour ago.

So basically, I’m going through hours of bullshyt to watch a show in 4K on my LG 4K OLED. It’s a very visually pleasing show (Brian Fuller is known for that), and I want to watch it at the highest quality. If the show was purchasable on a 4K UHD BD, I would have bought it. But alas, it’s not for sale anywhere in the world. :snoop:

This shyt better be amazing though, for all the work I’ve put in

Used to do that but it'll take far too long with more shows you end up downloading. Did it on a i7 2700K, terrible times back then. Back when watching movies even in 720p were hard to find
Best investment is a long ass hdmi from PC to the TV :russ:

That's what I do when I want to watch  Stuff that I didn't pay for

My PC is not in a convenient place, unfortunately. :mjcry:

Normally, I can stream everything I want to watch in 4K. I watch a shytload of 4K sources, no problem. :whew:

But Starz isn’t in 4K in the US. The UK has more 4K options than we do :smh:

Hopefully this is a one-time thing. :sadcam:

I did all this converting to find out it didn’t work. As a last resort, I just plugged a usb stick directly into my TV and the h.265 4K files played with some skipping. :patrice:

I guess it’s the best I can do :francis:

Or, I’ll have to settle for 1080p :sadcam:

Have you tried steaming the original h265 file from Plex?

That's exactly what I meant by terrible times!

Your second best bet is to convert files to a laptop and hdmi to hdmi TV

What media formats are supported? - Plex Support

Some 4K (ultra high definition) devices are recognized by the Plex app. We’re working to bring 4K playback support to other devices, too. 4K/UHD content matching the following will Direct Play on supported devices:

  • Container: MP4
  • Resolution: 3840×2160 or smaller
  • Video Encoding: HEVC (H.265)
  • Video Frame Rate: 30fps
  • Video Bit Depth: 8
4K content not matching the above properties will be transcoded to 1080p. Transcoding 4K content is a very intensive process and will require a powerful computer running Plex Media Server.

Now I see why HTPC forum guys use xeon's for massive htpc

I only have a Surfacebook as a laptop. I guess I can try it, but I'm thinking it might not be powerful enough. But, maybe :lupe:

This shyt is annoying though. I'm starting to think it isn't worth all this effort. :patrice:

Thanks for both of your help though.
