4K, 60fps, ultra (no AA) is gonna cost you like 1500-2400 on two GPUs by themselves. Then get the 8700k or better (if you want 16/16 lanes [which does improve performance]). Then you gotta buy a nice 4K g-sync/FreeSync monitor at 32” (which is $1K).

I’d also get 32gb of ram, and a 500gb+ SSD.

You’re looking at $3-4K for everything
He doesn't need 32gb of ram, 16gb is enough
I'll have 80 tabs open between 3 browsers, 3 VM and a game running it will not use 32gb of ram

Here is a build @Captain_Crunch, you should plan on adding another 1080 ti but honestly it's not worth it. Just lower your a few settings while gaming for certain titles

System Builder - Core i7-8700K 3.7GHz 6-Core, GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB SC2, S340 (Black/Red) ATX Mid Tower - PCPartPicker

At least $2500 to run games 4K at max settings? :mjcry:

If I build a rig that can do 4K/60fps at high almost near max settings, how many years can I expect to run it at those settings without upgrading? Also how much would that cost?

depends on new games and how they willl utilize more cores in the future, you're cpu/mobo should be good for at least 4 years until games begin to catch up and are more advanced to run

nvidia will release their new gpu in Nov/Decem

I buy a new pc every 2 years, but that’s just me. :manny:

At minimum I buy the new generation of GPUs everytime they come out.

Unlike consoles, PC games get more and more demanding by the month. There’s always some new graphical effect that comes about. Chasing all ultra graphics is very costly. Realistically you don’t need to do that. I mean, some games just throw settings out, and they know nobody can run them. For example, the Witcher 2 put some crazy aa out that nobody could run at the time. Then stuff like Wolfenstein put in some outrageous AA (like 64x).

I don’t even use AA at 4K. But at 1440p, I need it. All that crazy AA shyt is pointless in my opinion though. I can’t even tell the difference between 2X MSAA and 8X MSAA. So that shyt is just PC masturbation.

This, I change my gaming PC every generation with at least 25% performance increase. I sit on my Pc all day so no matter how much it cost, it's worth what I've put down especially if it's also associated with your work. Can't wait for the 8 core i7 this year.

You should be able to sell your Intel/Nvidia build for 70% of what you paid for 2-3 years of use. AMD cpu same realm but gpu will probably hit 60-70% of original price.
You'll likely lose money on old ram, motherboard - everything else will sit at 70% of value because people upgrading their past rigs.

I.E. buy a 8700k today, you'll sell it in 2 - 3 years for 200 - 250, 1080 ti for 700 will be 450-500 in that time frame.
@Captain_Crunch

Chasing ultra is dumb

Most times, there is no discernible difference between high and ultra :russ:
Agree with this until we get a GPU that can handle 4K at 144hz, you are wasting your time trying to game on 4K ultra 60hz.
1440p 144/165hz IPS is good enough

People are already saying the 4K HDR monitors blow away the present 4K monitors

I needed every bit of this 580 for ultrawide gaming

shyt like Shadow Warrior 2 and Doom that glides at 70-90 fps at 1080p gets hit hard all the way to low 60s when using 2560x1080p

Lower settings

example :

The first 4K, HDR, and G-Sync monitor is up for preorder, but it’s $2,000

$2K is better than the $3K we thought, but still way too expensive for a 27”, no matter the HDR and 144hz.

That said, if they release a 32” option for the same price, or lower the cost of the 27” to $1500, I’ll bite
microcenter will eventually lower the price and I'll be there :russ:

fukk preorder:whoo::mjcry:

2K ain't bad there won't be a replacement for these monitors for another 5 years like 1440p gaming monitors:francis:

I'm about to pull the trigger, might be time to sell some monitors\

Edit, it's already gone
