i will go Ryzen with probably 1070 geforce card.. i need a top PC machine...

Me too, i already have a 1070(zotac amp extreme) and want to upgrade to the following setup:

Yall really hopping on the Ryzen train?

I got an i5 6600k over clocked and feel I'm good for atleast 2 more years. My next move is to get on the i7 train during the next shrink 10 or 7 nm.

Should I be looking more into AMD and if so what's their road map looking like in 2019?

People going to Ryzen because it's readily available and because of it's cost per performance. You gotta wait until supply meets demand for the coffee cpus and for mid tier motherboards to come out.

If you really want to crush at 1440p, get a 1080.
Will i be overdoing it? I prefer the 1080 but because computer parts are expensive where i reside, i have to cut cost somewhere. I am glad that older video cards along with the right CPU will allow you to enjoy 1440p.

i will tell you how my IT life is .. i use a laptop that is 5 years old. I still use a 2.5 inch hard drive. i have yet to cross over to SSD use.

i stopped caring about video games long time ago but that is because i am used to console gaming. i learned that i am wasting my time with these consoles and under powered devices. I need a computer that can perform well for those heavy applications. Gaming will be a bonus for me on the side ..

Optimal settings:

Nvidia Control Panel Settings:

  • Set up G-SYNC > Enable G-SYNC > Enable G-SYNC for full screen mode.
  • Manage 3D settings > Vertical sync > On.
In-game Settings:

  • Use “Fullscreen” or “Exclusive Fullscreen” mode (some games do not offer this option, or label borderless windowed as fullscreen).
  • Disable all available “Vertical Sync,” “V-SYNC” and “Triple Buffering” options.
  • If an in-game or config file FPS limiter is available, and framerate exceeds refresh rate:
    Set 3 FPS limit below display’s maximum refresh rate (57 FPS @60Hz, 97 FPS @100Hz, 117 FPS @120Hz, 141 FPS @144Hz, etc).
RTSS Settings:

  • If an in-game or config file FPS limiter is not available and framerate exceeds refresh rate:
Set 3 FPS limit below display’s maximum refresh rate (see G-SYNC 101: External FPS Limiters HOWTO).

For gaming a i5 6600k (Use mine for 4k TV gaming) is great and still runs very strong no reason to currently upgrade unless you are doing more workload intensive stuff other than gaming. I would suggest for someone in your case to buy a
1. better graphic card
2. monitor - 1440p/144hz and more
3. nvme/m.2 x4 ssd, Any ssd to load games off instead of hdd
4. aio cooler to overclock your cpu better

Buying another board and cpu is not worth the current upgrade unless the 2 extra cores are needed but in most cases, it's not needed.
the i7 7700k is 14% better at single core performance and the i5 8600k is 10% better at single core performance.

My bad guess my post wasn't self explanatory. I was mainly asking if anyone had some insight on what Ryzen will be like in a couple of years compared to Intel.

Ryzen is great because the current boards will be useful for the next 4 years (2020) so when they release better ryzen chips you can use your board unlike intel with the z270, z370 problem right now where you can't use newer cpu on older boards
the r5 1600 is great for gaming, ryzen 7 is great for anything multi-core related like video editing, streaming etc
And they (amd) are finally competitive. 99% of people would appreciate what the r5/r7 can do
