Got the graphics card installed, that was a bytch. shyt is huge. Just installing a bunch of drivers and nvidia programs now. Got the thermal paste applied. Helped lower the temp. Hopefully it's consistent.

This shyt worse than a newborn. Thank God I don't have kids. Can't tell what's wrong or what it wants. Last night I unscrewed the heatsink or whatever it's called and pulled it off the processor. I applied thermal paste and put it back. It helped but eventually went back up. Today I did more research and I don't know if there was stock thermal paste on there but I separated them and cleaned off any thermal paste with alcohol. So I reapplied thermal paste. Starts off low then gets hotter. Then I noticed my gpu fans weren't running but I don't know if that's cuz they weren't being used in bios or if it needs to be connected somewhere. What I did see was a 4 pin slot, I think it said opt fan so I connected my can from the front of the case there. Here's where it gets confusing. My case has this ten slot board where my two fans used to be connected, front one and back one. I noticed two more things plugged into slots 5 and 10. I follow the cord and that shyts hanging loose on the side of the case :deadrose:. I don't know if they plug in somewhere or maybe those are extra fan cables to add more in the future. Do they sell fans that aren't required to be placed on the cpu? Could dust be a factor? My room does get dusty with the wooden furniture. I'm thinking of getting an air can for cleaning but don't know what works best. Could outer temperature have an effect? shyt been averaging 90 degrees out here, but I don't know how that transfers to Celsius. I'm bound to buy an ice pack and strap it to the side of this machine. :francis:

Turned it on to bios and it starts at 65 and slowly goes up.

dust and non working case fans shouldn't have a liquid cooled CPU hitting those temps in the bios. something is wrong with the liquid cooling, or your bios is giving you the wrong temps. have you tried going into windows and using a program like HWMonitor to monitor the temps and fans?

HWMONITOR | Softwares | CPUID

it sounds like you case has a fan controller. you'll have to check your case's documentation, but that might have to be plugged directly into the PSU (molex?). in the long run make sure all your case fans are plugged into something and spinning

make sure you also plug in the additional power connectors on the GPU. they look something like this:

gtx480_power_connectors.jpg

they connect directly to your PSU. your PSU should have right connectors, but if it doesn't you can use a molex adapter (usually included with the GPU)

dust should not be an issue with a new PC. and if it's bad enough to affect temps, it will be obvious (visible thick layers of dust :scusthov: ). canned air is the simplest way to deal with it. don't use a regular vacuum cause there's a strong risk of ESD (static electricity, which kills electronics). they do sell specialized vacuum/blowers that are safe for for computers/electronics

ambient/room temperature can be a factor, but I hope it's not 90F in your crib :whew:. that's only 32C, but colder room temps definitely do help keep your PC cooler

It might be the bios, it looks like Intel

Seems to be a known issue.

Yeah I connected the gpu to the power supply. It had some adaptor cable but then I remembered I had some cables in the power supply box. This shyt had two Velcro straps in it and I'm like :dahell: but then realized it's to hold cables together. I got it working with the rgb lights too. I saw there's an option for controlling other lights on the motherboard but haven't seen it or found the driver. Benefits of having a see thru case.

I'll have to download that program you recommended when I get back home later.

Yeah I don't know about the case having a fan controller, although wait a minute, the top of the case does havea button with the word fan and a + - maybe that's it. But both fans are connected to the motherboard. Unless this shyt got fans hidden somewhere other than the front and back. But I doubt it.

So I'm planning on switching from my shytty laptop to building a small work area in an open spot in my basement.

Here's the part list I'm looking at
System Build - Ryzen 7 1700 3.0GHz 8-Core, GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB GA... - PCPartPicker

pxDdHCf.jpg

My main uses will be Adobe CC some Corel Draw and Video Editing.

Secondary uses are gaming (current and future games) and maybe a media center.

My main goal is to get a long life and value out of this build with the 8 cores. The SSD for the OS and some programs with a few HDD's for media and file storage. As for the display, I was thinking of getting a 40" 4K tv to go with the GPU. Not sure if the 1060 is good enough for now, and then upgrade to the 1080 in a year or so when prices aren't so high.

I know the AM4 boards are hit or miss so the one I have selected is a placeholder until something more solid comes along. (Unless you guys think this is a good choice) I will be over clocking the CPU to get the max for my dollar as well as the memory.

Thoughts/opinions/suggestions are appreciated. :salute:

There are some nice Corsair cases out there

Corsair PC Cases — Obsidian Series, Graphite Series, Vengeance Series and Carbide Series full-tower, and mid-tower computer cases

side note: I was corsair everything, until I bought my Phanteks Evolv RGB. I shoulda just stayed with my Corsair 750D. Corsair cases are the shyt. I had a 900D too, but shyt was way too big (it's probably the best case I've ever owned though...so much space....:wow:)
