Yeah, there haven't been too many of them. In fact the first mITX board is only going to be released later this month by Biostar, but it's a higher end X370 part.(Biostar X370GTN is the first Ryzen Mini-ITX motherboard) Maybe you could get around it by selling your current mobo/ram/cpu as a bundle to offset the cost of a new atx case, but I don't know how practical that'd be cause you might still want to keep it around as a second pc/htpc for your uses. A super cheap m/ATX case might be the way to go for now.

what motherboard would you recommend to go with the R5 1600x under $100

For mATX, I'd say the MSI B350M Gaming Pro small downside is the 2667 max memory speed.. but overall at sub-100 the B350 Tomahawk is the best choice. It's an ATX board, supports xfire if you decide to get a second 580 in future and ram OC up to 3200 which is almost as good as you need at this point. Both are MSI boards with good support so far.. and they've been pushing out their bios updates with good regularity lately, so no worries about that.

I agree with the Ryzen recommendation, but not sure you wanted to go that route.

yeah just a couple of things.
  • your ram is faster than that motherboard supports, so it will only run at max 2667. so like 10% memory performance will go unused.. the tomahawk will get that covered though. other than that you're good.
  • the 1600x doesn't come bundled with a cooler, so you'll have to buy one separately. The 1600 comes with a cooler but lower stock clocks. According to the guys at Hardware Unboxed, they will overclock very similarly too.

So you'd be losing very little performance and saving some money if you went with the 1600. The 1600x is still good though.
  • If you're going with the 1600x, bear in mind the cooler you have with your current cpu won't work. most manufactures will send you a free am4 bracket though. I got some for my cooler master evo 212 ahead of time.
  • the RX5xx series are supposed to be announced/released late this month or early May. They'll be at least 10pct faster and also overclock better. If you'd like to wait a bit more, you could get a better gpu for the same money.
besides all that, it's a really good list

would you opt out of free returns? :patrice:
You could or just pay a little extra for the security, I never had an issue with them personally :manny:

Either way, you are looking at about $17 right there just on RAM. You know you want that 1700 if possible and you are getting close
