Pretty much. It's entertaining and absolutely jaw dropping but due to the lack of content, lack of replayability and whatnot, it's just not worth it's entry price imo. I'd still recommend playing it at least though simply for the visuals and kind of good gunplay. I'm literally dead serious but this game is the best looking game I've ever played. The combination of the art and detail to the world makes it simply unrivaled. I seriously am baffled as to how they got the game to look CG.
This is the best looking console game ever made. Nothing else I've seen on a console comes close. It terms of cinematic presentation it is also unmatched. The story is confusing because I'm half way in and they haven't gone into detail about what exactly is going on. A lot of the context of the plot is still being hidden at this point. I don't regret buying it but I don't buy games because of the value they offer. I flat out don't rent games so the only way I play them is a purchase. I don't doubt within several months this will go on sale. For most people I'd say wait to see if it hits PS Plus in the distant future.

Hell, although best "looking" is subjective I'd say that no other game out period offers the presentation and grpahics all together. This game simply doesn't look gamey at all, it truly is a CG looking videogame.

I think the presentation is what's killing me also because it simply just looks unreal in motion. It never drops a beat below 30fps, the animations combined with the art style, detail to the world and all in engine scenes make the game looks seriously like a CG film.

Right now this game is a popcorn game that you just play to get it over with and move on. I kind of see what the story is about but I honestly don't care at the moment. The acting, presentation and gunplay is what's keeping me entertained. I think giving this away on PS Plus down the line would be great for everyone.

I seriously want them to make a sequel as I feel there's untapped potential here. They already got the engine down pat, just throw a good MP mode in here, a longer campaign with better combat arenas, dynamic AI, better spaced out cutscenes and a more coherent story and a sequel could probably see UC2 type acclaim.

Got to chapter X and I'll call it a night. I'll finish tomorrow.

I'm actually glad the game got the scores it got because they deflated my hype and had me going in with very low expectations but up till now, I've been enjoying this game far more than I expected. Game is nowhere near bad as they made it out to be. I'm enjoying this far more than The Evil Within and Killzone Shadowfall.

Cliffy :wow:

Bleszinski played the first hour of the game on air on Twitch, accompanied by Boss Key Co-Founder and Guerrilla Games veteran Arjan Brussee. He seemed to appreciate what little he saw of the shooting mechanics and the graphics, but he was also definitely frustrated by the long cutscenes getting in the way of the firefights and action, and by the fact that they can’t be skipped.

Here are his closing thoughts:

I want to fukking like it, but the narrative is just forced on me so much. I’m like “Dudes, let me experience the combat You can have QTEs. It’s not always a bad thing, but it’s so heavy in this.

I don’t know, It’s fukking gorgeous, the animations are great. But as a developer who has a studio, I’m always thinking about games costing money to make. I just see this as a fukking big experience that the money could have been spent in some other places to get a better bang for buck.

But you know, Sony needs to sell consoles. I always call it a system justifier. Look at these looks. It clearly looks better than PS3. That’s what they’re gunning for.

I just can’t do all the cutscenes guys. Call me jaded. I’ll probably go back to it, give it a go. A lot of people really worked their ass off, and I hope I didn’t offend anybody with my commentary here. I just had a little bit of fun with it, and don’t punch me in the nuts at GDC if you see me .

Bleszinski also explained his point of view on the shooting mechanics and on the AI:

I mean, the shooting mechanics are pretty good for what it is. The problem with the AI is that… we had a timer with the Gears franchise that if the enemies turtled, eventually they would come running for it, so there was a certain amount of tension.

We then got his opinion on why the filmic approach to games has become quite common:

This industry is fundamentally insecure about Hollywood and wants to be Hollywood… The only way to convince executives to release the money to greenlight productions is to do movie-like productions that impress them. That’s honestly why this stuff happens.

its a travesty that Assassin's Creed Unity a game that shipped a buggy mess that didn't even function properly has a higher metacritic score than this game. In many ways this is why I don't take gaming media seriously. I've encountered zero bugs, zero game crashes, the framerate is rock solid, this game functions as a game should. Its a well made game that excels at doing what it was designed to do. the problem is what it was designed to do isn't for everyone and the asking price is very steep. Perhapse this game would have been better following the Telltale games model of being episodic.

AC:U has a 70 and this game has a 65. it's not a huge difference

The Order does seem to have a high level of polish. but at the same time it's a very tight scripted experience, without a lot of room for stuff to wrong

and a "buggy mess" can still be enjoyable as long as the bugs aren't completely 'game breaking'. that's just a general statement, and not necessarily the case with AC:U. personally I don't like the AC games, bugs or not

but like I said, their metacritic scores aren't that different. neither game is perfect, and they both have very different issues

IMO, it seems that PS4 exclusives are graded "tighter" than the competition. things overlooked or given a pass on in other games get scrutinized more with PS4 games.

What do you think?

Yeah people are just out to get PS4 exclusives :mjlol:

In realty all of the PS4 exclusives so far have been graphics focused affairs with little substance. People want more than just pretty graphics.

Bloodborne is the first gameplay focused game and it will review much better than the other ps4 exclusives
