Of course it isn't ABOUT top 5 rapper lists, explicitly, or solely. And, I saw all those other themes, though as someone with 8 years sober, the movie only does a decent job depicting alcoholism, mainly due to problems with tone, and moments where it felt unsure about what it was saying, or wanted the audience to feel. Without being condescending, I am concerned you would interpret my post that way, this is a semi autobiographical satire, but this is a hip hop movie at it's heart The fukking title…the excel producers, From the soundtrack, to the jokes, the cameos, everything…..If you aren't a rap fan, like most of us are on here, who grew up on hip hop and top 5 lists, you will not appreciate this movie, maybe 30 something white people who have heard DMX 'Party Up' in the club who like a standup or two of Rock's can enjoy it on it's other merits, but it's not FOR them. It's for us.
I just disagree with that.

Just saw this. It was dope. :leon:

Trailer doesn't show alot of the grittier funny shyt but I would love to see what they left on the cutting room floor.

Had alot of funny guest appearances to besides Kevin Hart and Cedric.

I'll prolly cop the bluray when it drops.

Above The Clouds
seen the movie this morn brehs, I'd give it a 7.5/10.

Chris Rock damn near employed half of black Hollywood in this film!!

Plot was decent, and Rock took some shots @ these Reality TV hoes.

Enjoyed the DMX surprise, and I think I was the only nikka in the theater rolling when the cops beat Chris' ass :russ:

I loved the hip-hop theme of Top 5 through out the movie. You can also tell Rock used his connections cause he got some BIG TIME comedians to do some cameos during the Bachelor Party scene.

I will admit Dawson was looking a little :flabbynsick:, but I'd still go half on a baby with her:yeshrug:

The scene with Hayley Marie Norman & Karlie Redd was:banderas:, Hayley had some pretty ass titties.

That Gay CAC shyt with Rosario's boyfriend was wack:camby:, That shyt had me hot. It pretty much displays why its so ruff for single nikkas out here nowadays. Our waters are tainted, these broads know these dudes are mango and still stay with them after the fact. Straight poisoning the waters.:damn:

I thought it was ok. 6.5-7/10. I definitely expected a comedy and not a dramedy.

I wish there were more laughs throughout the film. I believe that your enjoyment of the movie depends on how highly you view Rosario Dawson and Chris Rock as actors. This was the first time I've watched Rosario Dawson in a movie since Death Proof so I'm not checking for her. She did okay as the psuedo-love interest. The reveal towards the end was predictable. I have a hard time viewing Chris Rock as a semi-serious actor. He's always had a lack of on-screen personality, and while he's improved it in this film, it's still a prevalent issue. Don't know if he'll ever fix that.

JB Smoove did a great job as Rock's childhood friend/bodyguard/advisor. I wish they focused a little more on their friendship.

There a gang of black comedians in this. Sad that this was possibly Tracy Morgan's last role. shyt, Ardie Fuqua too. Great to see Rock include them in the movie. I would've loved to be on set in between the takes.

Gabrielle Union did a good job. Actually felt a little bit of sympathy for her as the reality star who's hit their peak.
I thought the shyt with Anders Holm was :ehh:. Too much man-ass, but the joke was funny.
Didn't recognize Karlie Redd in the movie. Probably because the other chick was so bad. Man, shorty was :noah:. The whole scene was hilarious. LOL, we took our mother to see this. We didn't even look over at her during this scene. I had the :snoop:

@MartyMcFly how many eberts? think i'm seeing this thursday

3.5/4 or 4.5/5 whatever scale you rate on. It's got a couple lulls but not that many. Beautifully written man, good acting, funny as hell, and there's a cameo in it worth the price of admission alone
