if you has ever listed your top 5, top 3 whatever, rappers…and will still argue or discuss the subject you should love this movie…if that is unfamiliar to you, movie isn't for you.
i definitely disagree

This movie isnt about top five lists...at all

This movie is about knowing who you are...being true to yourself...and fear of failure and lonliness....you see those themes in chris', gabrielle's, rosarios, jb's charactors very consistantly. The dmx scene shouldve madethis evident if it wasnt clear already...

This movie is MORE about alcoholism than top 5 rapper lists...im concerned you misssd the point friend.

Yeah I will say the music did sound real dated. I think it said that Questlove and some European sounding dude did the music but it just sounded like Chris Rock was like, "Ok I really like all these songs, just make generic versions of them." And they all happened to be circa mid-2000s

Nah breh - that scene specifically - the context in which the character sang it. Soundtrack overall was fine to me.

*Wonders if Hov and Ye plan to be producers on more Black Excellence*

Of course it isn't ABOUT top 5 rapper lists, explicitly, or solely. And, I saw all those other themes, though as someone with 8 years sober, the movie only does a decent job depicting alcoholism, mainly due to problems with tone, and moments where it felt unsure about what it was saying, or wanted the audience to feel. Without being condescending, I am concerned you would interpret my post that way, this is a semi autobiographical satire, but this is a hip hop movie at it's heart The fukking title…the excel producers, From the soundtrack, to the jokes, the cameos, everything…..If you aren't a rap fan, like most of us are on here, who grew up on hip hop and top 5 lists, you will not appreciate this movie, maybe 30 something white people who have heard DMX 'Party Up' in the club who like a standup or two of Rock's can enjoy it on it's other merits, but it's not FOR them. It's for us.
