Turning Point 2006
Keep this fukkery train going because this show is TNA is gonna TNA as hell. Let me start with the talking segments on this show. This is a PPV, right? People paid idk, I assume at least $30 in the middle of a recession for this show. How does TNA reward the people buying this show? How about having 10 minutes of a bikini contest between Eric Young and Traci Brooks, the majority of which is EY dancing and prancing around like an idiot while Tenay and DW make dikk jokes (and also, Mike straight up asks Don what size he thinks Traci's t*ts are, and Don answers sincerely). EY wins the contest and Bobby Roode basically tells her to go fukk Eric so he'll sign a contract with Bobby Roode, because if the people love EY and EY works for Bobby, they'll love Bobby, too. You see, their whole feud is over Bobby being upset and jealous that the crowd loves Eric but not him. But the same promo had Bobby shytting all over the Orlando fans and talking about how sick of them he is and how trashy they are. Maybe if he'd just be nice to them they'd like him, too. This is 100% a TV angle but instead is on PPV for 12 minutes.
A bit later in the show: Jim Cornette brings out AJ Pierzynski and Dale Torborg (formerly known as The Demon) as special guests. He also brings out World Series MVP David Eckstein and his brother, Rick. Pierzynski and Demon TURN HEEL on the Ecksteins, attacking them and Jim Cornette until...Lance Hoyt makes the save. Again, this is 100% a TV angle and takes up 10 minutes of PPV time.
Lastly, the Voodoo Kin Mafia have another one of their "really bad skits" (and there were a few backstage segments to go with this throughout the show) where they come to the ring in make up and wigs to as HHH and HBK. Oh, sorry, Paul Levesque and Michael Hickenbottom. They then fight off a group of male cheerleaders (in purple instead of green), then rip off the make up for a SHOOT promo. Road Dogg rants and raves about how they're killing the legacy of DX every week (in reality they're just mad they weren't involved, also he gets completely tongue tied multiple times, loses his train of thought a few times, and Don asks "where is he going with this" at one point) and can't believe Vince would threaten to sue over their parody segments in TNA after the shyt he had them do with WCW back in the day. He then calls HHH/HBK pussies, calls Vince a gutless piece of shyt, and throws out a $1,000,000 challenge TAG TEAM SHOOT FIGHT that Vince can't possibly turn down
This took up a good 15 minutes of PPV time and is absolutely pathetic. I'm pretty sure this was on PPV just so Road Dogg could say p*ssy and shyt. It's just genuinely pathetic from everyone involved. Every show they talk about how TNA is the talk of the wrestling world, the list of talent trying to get in the door is endless, yet they can't help but to beg for ANY attention from Vince. Tenay and West cackling at this shyt is pathetic. TNA giving two pilled up jealous hasbeens so much screen time every week and even on PPV to do this shyt just hoping Vince would acknowledge them is pathetic. What's even funnier (in a pathetic sense) is they couldn't even say any WWE trademarks, so they couldn't say DX or D-Generation X, HHH, or HBK.
Then you get to the matches: All but one match on the card had a fukk finish. X Division scramble thing has Low Ki win, but the real story being Kevin Nash loves nothing more than making dated sports references on commentary and Austin Starr/Alex Shelley are fighting for Papa Kev's approval. Low Ki won, but it was after Alex Shelley came back after being eliminated to cost Austin the win.
Daniels vs Sabin has Jerry Lynn, who has been trying to teach Sabin respect for months, as the ref. It has a clean finish with Daniels winning with the BME, but post match sees Jerry try to get Sabin to shake Daniels' hand, Daniels just wanting to get his hand raised and get the fukk out of the ring, so Jerry slaps him and storms off. Don West had the right call: "I don't understand this at all."
AJ/Rhino starts out brawling backstage and the brawling all around the arena goes longer than the actual match, which has a drawn out AJ knee injury with the ref throwing up the X and all the trainers out checking on him only for it to be a SWERVE and AJ wins with a roll up
And this feud has the same fukking start as the Daniels/Lynn thing: The month before Rhino came out to get Daniels/AJ to patch up their differences after he had been feuding with Christian and didn't want to see the same thing happen to them, and AJ got bytchy about it and turned heel over it. And then DW and Tenay were just utterly shocked that AJ had an attitude, they'd never seen such behavior out of him...despite him being a heel for like half of the company's existence at that time.
AMW/LAX have a flag match, but it's not a normal flag match. First you have to get the flag from the pole, then you have to climb a ladder and hang the flag over the center of the ring where there's a bar with velcro. The finish is Harris and Homicide battling atop the ladder, with Storm climbing up and hitting Homicide with a beer bottle, which sliced the fukk out of Homicide's head, but also glass went flying into Harris' eyes, so AMW lost and the Cuban who pretends to be Mexican with the Puerto Rican with the Mexican-American stood for the long as fukk Mexican national anthem for heel heat, but most of the fans also stood and no one booed or cat called during it
But holy shyt that anthem is so fukking long
. It's funny with Gail Kim recently coming out of retirement for a match and everyone talking about her as this amazing talent, pioneer for women's wrestling and knockouts specifically. Here, Tenay literally called her eye candy, and as she got physically involved, Don West was
when Homicide/Konnan attacked her. LAX's existence just seems to be breaking up all the face tag teams, as this was the start of the AMW break up, the feud with AJ/Daniels led to them breaking up as well.
Christian/Sting/Abyss is a constant stream of fukked up spots, including the finish, which sees Abyss bump Christian out of the way hitting a black hole slam on Sting that was supposed to be on tacks but missed entirely, but was still sold like he went into the tacks. Pretty much every spot, even basic ones, was messed up from all three guys (plus Tomko) the entire match
Joe vs Angle is
THE rematch. The only rematch they'll ever have.
This is actually way better than their first match, super intense and raw in a way I think people were expecting out of the first match. It gets wacky at the end where they do ankle lock to RNC spot at least 3 times in a row, both guys kick out of their impact finishers, Joe even gets to the ropes on the grapevined ankle lock. Then there's a ref bump, Kurt hitting a low blow, going for a chair but hitting himself with the comedy bounce off the ropes spot, then getting put in the choke for the 5th time and tapping out. All this shyt for the finish was so unnecessary. There was no need to "keep Kurt strong" here or have any kind of controversy to keep the feud going. The whole story was Kurt gave Joe a rematch because it was a rematch that redeemed Kurt's career and led to him winning at the Olympics and then being where he is now. Kurt won their first encounter clean, ending Joe's 18 month undefeated streak. This was obviously going to lead to a 1-1 record and then an iron man match. There's no need to have a weird finish. Just have Joe beat Angle clean to show they're true equals, then in the rematch Kurt freaks out and has to cheat and continue the feud that way if they want it to keep going. This is wrestling 101 shyt here, and this was a dream match and feud only TNA could do at that time and set itself apart from WWE and they had to start turning to the bullshyt in the 2nd match
