Wow just came back from a week long vacay in NYC ( I was born and raised there) and I'm honestly disgusted to be back. The amount of non-stop shyt to be done in NYC:ohlawd:. Now I'm back here and I'm trying to find shyt to do with no luck:sadbron:. I'm already plotting to move back to Brooklyn.
I love NYC but it seems so hard to stack your paper there.

depends on if you are alone or with parents. That's why I'm bitter my parents moved. With parents it's easy as fukk cause you have no bills. Stack up and move out. Higher pay and union jobs with decent benefits also many programs to help pay for school. But on your own your money is going a million different ways which is like two steps forward and one step back. Your still moving forward but it's hard and slow as hell.

Lol alot of stuff.

1) the heat. I'm a fall-winter kind of person. The heat here is so stifling and uncomfortable. The humidity feels sticky and gross.
2) having drive everywhere. I've never been a fan of driving. Especially since my parents chose to live out in the woods it always takes me at least 10-15 minutes to get out to a store. Then to get to any decent civilization takes 20-25 mins. It's annoying and discouraging as hell. When I think about all the trouble and time it would take to go somewhere I get discouraged and would rather stay home.
3) too many old folks who want everything dry and boring. In NYC, activity going on around them made old people feel involved whereas here activity going on around old people makes them feel scared and threatened.
4) everyone's personality is odd. I feel that Florida's are very friendly on the surface but are guarded when you try to get to know them deeper. It's odd because in NY we are known to be rude or curt but we are alot more open and you get to truly connect and get to know someone. Floridians seem super friendly and helpful but you don't get more than 1 inch deep with them. We've been here for 6 years but no one in my family has made any friends.
5) not enough activities to do. You gotta search real hard to find something going on in Florida whereas you can run into something random just walking down the street in Manhattan. Also nyc government itself plans alot of activities and partners with schools and programs. And they advertise it well on the radio, newspaper, TV,etc. So if you want you can pop in to check something out. It felt everything was for everyone in New York. Whereas here its like shyt be going on and you never hear about it. Like it only makes rounds amongst certain crowds.
6) no useful public transportation
7) no sense of roots. I don't feel anyone here feels particularly connected to their area. In NYC ask people where they from and you get a speech. I can tell you all about my experience in crown heights and east new york, and my school's, college area. Everything had a feeling to it. Here its just whatever. There's no sense of pride or sentiment towards any area. Even if you own a house people don't feel like they really really OWN it. They just know they live there. Idk how to explain it.
Certain crowds do stick together down here. This is one of the reasons why I miss LA a lot. There's plenty to do and opportunity in whatever professional life is available there.
I'm an unshy loner so I can just go somewhere and talk myself into circles and people just fukk with me off GP.

Miami has the potential to be mini LA lite but public transportation did us in. Driving ain't the haps and being told Atlanta is worse keeps me from considering that move amongst other things.

Bolded on 2 is why I tend to stay in. The hassle with traffic is not worth it. You live in WPB so that affects you more than you know. If you lived in Miami, I live in Fort Lauderdale now, your experience would be different. Just take the Tri-Rail or Brightline down and Uber or Lyft around. It's a lot to do in Miami (Dade in general) but it depends on your interests and how deep your pockets are.

Well to be fair LA has terrible transportation for a city it’s size. 4 million people yet a city like Boston is way ahead of it transportation.

Mainly cause Boston is old anyway

I respect the fact that you didn’t come to nyc like a tourist and actually explored nyc like you live here.

Much respect for you.

Lots of these people go to Manhattan and think that’s the real NY.

As for Florida I love Wynwood so much that I don’t get tired of that area but next time I go to see my brothers I’m going to start exploring Fort Lauderdale. Seems more authentic there!

I didn't mind taking the bus and the subways. They're steady expanding the light rails. People are just acclimated to driving in LA.

Everything is more authentic outside of Wynwood.

I like Wynwood but use to love it before it got corporate thus pre-Art Basel only for them to abandon it for Miami Beach.

Yea I’m tired of driving myself I like the subway but also nyc is expanding BRT. Does La have BRT buses?

Man that feels better than both the subway and regular bus!
I believe LA do have them but my memory isn't 100% sure.

Born and raised and stacking paper has never been an issue for me but then again I’m realistic and don’t try to live outside my realities!

Living outside Manhattan helps also!
Im considering moving to NYC for one year to get the experience of living there. What is your opinion on living in Harlem and can you live in NY on a $90k salary as a single male?
