who is responsible for this holding? ive seen people say ward is really the cause for it cause he comes in with his head down. of course I don't agree though.

This is clear as day. In the very first clinch, you see Ward bend at the waist and grab Kovalev. Kovalev then wraps his arm around Wards neck. a tactic a gym rat like myself knows. When you have a fighter coming in low from the crouching up jab, you try to catch the jab and wrap your arm around his neck to squeeze the juice out of him. But the idiot who did this video just goes straight to Kovalev wrapping his arm around Ward. If Ward were standing up and fighting like a man, Kovalev wouldn't have been able to put him in a headlock.

But keep watching the video so this can be an educational moment. The tactic I'm sure came from JDJ. In order to negate or prevent Wards inside game, every time Ward would come in at the waist Kovalev puts him in a headlock which will always prompt the ref to separate the fighters so theyre back to fighting square up. Strategy 201.

Lol @ Kov stans still whining about holding like Kovalev wasn't putting Ward in headlocks and underhooking his arms repeatedly in the clinch, Kathy Duva talking bout Ward having a future in MMA while Kov was out there looking like Randy Couture. Hopefully the next ref will dock your Klansman's points if he decides to fight like one of the Steiner Bros again.
My beef with Kovalev and his team complaining about holding is that they knew it was coming. They talked about it leading up to the fight, with Kovalev even saying if Ward was holding he would try and break his arms. But when it happened in the fight (both were holding), Kovalev did nothing to dissuade any holding.

Dan Rafael chat wrap 11/25:

Kovalev vs. Ward:
- UK PPV's are a bargain. US PPV's are massively overpriced. Believes that price is a major reason why US #'s are disappointing, as well as pirate streams.
- Kovalev vs. Ward is a debatable decision, not a robbery. He strongly believes Kovalev won, but respects people who think Ward won.
- Hearing that Ward vs. Kovalev likely didn't break 200k PPV's.
- Kovalev does have an immediate rematch clause. They certainly could negotiate to have interim bouts. If they do an immediate rematch, expect next spring around April.
- Doesn't disagree that Ward doesn't seem too fond of a rematch.
- Body language after a fight says a lot. Ward seemed surprised to be announced the winner.
- Ward is under contract with HBO (in regards to fighting Stevenson).
- No vibe in the arena for the undercard, picked up for the main event.
- Hooker got a gift draw and Hoyle's card was one of the worst he has ever seen.
- Based on the purses it would be most likely a rematch would be on PPV as well.
- Thought Byrd allowed too much holding (initiated by Ward) and felt he should have broken them up more often and more quickly.
- Most on the panel who vote for ESPN's PFP ranking felt Kovalev won.
- How Dan voted in PFP: 1. Chocolatito, 2. GGG, 3. Ward, 4. Kovalev, 5. Pacquiao
- The person who voted in ESPN's ranking with Ward at #10 and GGG unranked is completely uncredible.
- Was Roc Nation intentionally being rude to him at the press conference (rumored)? No comment.
- It was disgrace that Shields wasn't on the PPV. HBO is not showing much interest in women's boxing. Espinoza at Showtime has shown interest.
- Thinks Kellerman has a soft spot for Ward and was trying hard to give him rounds.
- Prime RJJ vs. Ward? RJJ.

It is Wards destiny to return to 168 to fight GGG. After he beats Kovalev (AGAIN) and after he takes care of Stevenson who is there left for him at 175?

I really dont know how the rematch will go if the two fight again. Ward just doesnt look the same at 175 as he did at 168 imo. He adjusted well to Kov down the stretch, but could he do it again, esp against an even angrier Kovalev? Also I agree with Dan Rafael on Andre not truly believing he won the fight. That worries me a lot too bc what if his confidence was shaken against Kov? It would probably affect his performance the second go round.

Andre Ward shaken? The man who got off the ground and proceeded to win the following round and then the fight. :russ:

Who you need to be worried about is your Klansmann he looked into the eyes of a fighter who for the first time in his pro career wasn't afraid of him. He can't knock him out, he can't beat him from outside range or mid range and he'll get beat up till/while he holds on the inside side.

And Angier Kov is even easier to deal with he'll be frustrated and gassed by the 3rd this time: smugbiden:

Tl;Dr nothing Kovalev can do :umad: and to quote @yawn "he ain't got no belts"

anger is not a thing which positively effect a fighter
I always found dumb that people fall to this bs hype narrative that Kovalev is better when he's angry. Nobody is better like that.
