SEGA announces Astro City Mini Arcade, To Get 36 Classics

Out of the blue SEGA Toys has announced the Astro City Mini Arcade via a interview with Game Watch Impress in Japan. You can read the interview where they talk about a lot of the Astro City Arcade cabinet history which was a cabinet released only in Japan so forget about this coming to the States (Hey, Sega!).

Some of the confirmed titles already include:

  • Alien Syndrome
  • Alien Storm
  • Golden Axe
  • Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder
  • Columns II
  • Dark Edge
  • Ichidant-R
  • Virtua Fighter
  • Fantasy Zone
  • Altered Beast
The cool thing about these titles is that this will be the first time Dark Edge and Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder will get home releases! According to the interview this project started at SEGA back in 2018! It has also been confirmed that SEGA-AM 2 legendary composer Hiro will be making the sounds for this Mini console. There will also be support for HDMI out, microswitch joystick, replaceable balltop and even support for external controllers. The device will be pricey coming in at 12,800 yen ($119 USD), but according to the interview its made out of the same material as the actual cabinet. What do you guys think?

[Edit: Looks like Game Watch took down the interview because it was accidentally shared early. Oops.]

generally knew most of what's talked about..but did not know that the DC would've been the real, real end of Sega had it not been for the personal bail out..and he waived the payback when he passed...:whew:

:wow:

That is history right there. SEGA is a company that many *selfish* gamers do not deserve, because they caught up in high end graphics over gameplay and cinematics that is a higher budget than a Hollywood blockbuster. SEGA proves that innovation with timeless gameplay can persevere in a sea of superficial games.

I don’t trust sega rereleases anymore after the input lag in the genesis mini and sega genesis collection.

It took a player mod for the lag to be fixed in the steam version of the sega genesis collection but the consoles versions were never fixed.

Galloping Ghost Arcade in Brookfield, Illinois Debuts Incredibly Rare SEGA R360 Arcade Machine – Only Publicly Playable Machine in America

GLocR360_Arcade_Cabinet.jpg

I’ve covered the Galloping Ghost Arcade in Brookfield, Illinois a bit here on SEGAbits. Mainly because it is just a short drive away from the SEGAbits Midwest HQ (or SEGAbits Building 2 as I will now refer to it as). The arcade opened in August 2010, and has since expanded to fill an entire block of storefront property in the Chicagoland suburb. In the past, the arcade has debuted countless SEGA classics and hidden treasures including Space Harrier, Air Bike Cop, Star Wars Arcade and Ribbit.

As the arcade nears 800 games and hits its 10 year anniversary, arcade owner Doc Mack has long wanted to celebrate the milestone by debuting the ultra rare and expensive SEGA R360. The process to obtain one has been in the works for a while, with Doc even reaching out to SEGAbits for help in finding somebody willing to part with one. Thankfully, it looks like Doc’s efforts paid off as now, for the first time in decades, a functioning SEGA R360 machine is publicly playable in America!

Virtua Fighter to have a collaboration with Goonya Fighter for Nintendo Switch

VF-Goonya-Fighter-768x432.jpg

According to a Dengeki Online article, a collaboration between the party fighting game, Goonya Fighter, and SEGA’s 3D fighting game series “Virtua Fighter” was announced. For those who are unfamiliar with this indie game, Goonya Fighter is a 4 player party fighting game for Nintendo Switch which involves flopping your opponents and features 3 game modes, 90 battlefields, and online gameplay.

While the collaboration date for the crossover is unknown at this time, we do know that a few of the Virtua Fighter cast will be making appearances as skins based on the Twitter post from the official Goonya Fighter Twitter account. The cast consists of Akira Yuki, Pai Chan, Lau Chan, Sarah Bryant, and Wolf Hawkfield.

With all of these collaborations happening, I do hope that they give more exposure to younger audiences for SEGA to revive more of their classic titles to modern gaming. What do you all think? Let us know in the comments below!
