Surprise! Liverpool-based developer Firesprite is cooking up a disturbing first-person horror experience, and it’s coming to PlayStation VR.

The setup is simple but fun. You’ll play onboard The Persistence, a research vessel sent to study a collapsing star. When an experiment triggers a catastrophic failure, the ship’s computer attempts to save the day by reconstructing the deceased crewmembers. Unfortunately, it also introduces hideous errors in the process, transforming them into gibbering mutants. Oops!

Playing as a crewmember awoken from cryosleep, you’ll navigate the doomed ship, try to get the engines back online, and escape the ravenous clutches of the nearby black hole.

The ship itself is procedurally generated, so each time you die, you’ll awaken as a new character facing a new ship layout, different threats, and new opportunities. And die you will — death is an integral part of the gameplay loop.

As you play, you’ll collect stem cells you’ll use to enhance your character after death. Benefits like increased speed, health, and stealth that will help you stay alive long enough to complete the game.

As for weapons, your trusty sidearm is the Stem Cell Harvester, which syphons precious cells from enemies, with fatal results. The Gravity Bomb drops a miniature black hole to devour nearby mutants, while a Rage Serum injector grants you temporary super-strength for hand-to-hand pummeling. There are more conventional firearms, too, including a pistol that fires dark-energy-infused rounds.

I enjoyed my time with the game. Its techno-horror atmosphere gave me flashbacks to System Shock 2, and its roguelike qualities should give it some serious longevity. I also liked how the developers introduce systems to better accommodate VR play, such as a teleport maneuver you can use to close the gap on helpless enemies.

I also got a peek at a smartphone companion app that could make the game a party hit. Nearby players can log in to the ship’s computer to view the level layout and identify upcoming threats or items. Help or hinder? The choice will be yours.

No details yet on a release date, but The Persistence is heading to PS VR and it’s definitely on my radar.

Fallout VR Is Heading to E3 2017 and “Is Going to Blow Your Mind”
Along with the assurance that the VR version of Fallout 4 is coming to E3 2017, Pete Hines explained how one prominent Bethesda figure has received it.

Fallout 4 VR was originally announced at E3 2016, but since then not much has been said about its development. However, according to Bethesda’s Pete Hines, it’s going to have a coming-out event at E3 2017.

In an interview with HipHopGamer, Hines revealed a brief look into his discussions about the VR version of Fallout 4 with Bethesda Director Todd Howard. Although Hines doesn’t play VR due to suffering from motion sickness, he passed on these words from Howard.

“He said, Fallout 4 VR is the most incredible thing you’ve ever seen in your life. You can’t even imagine what it’s like, playing in VR and how realistic it looks and everywhere you turn your head. It is going to blow your mind. It is the craziest thing you’ve ever seen.”

Hines went on to say “we’ll have it at E3.”

When asked about his feelings regarding the future of VR, Hines admitted he’s not sure it’s going to be revolutionary, but that it is certainly establishing its audience and that Bethesda plans to be a part of that process.

“I think it’ll grow […] it will be accepted and it will become more common. I don’t personally believe it’s ever going to be a thing where like, ‘I don’t play other things. I only play on VR.’ Because I play games and my wife likes to watch and if I’ve got some damn headset on and I’m telling her like, ‘I don’t even care if you’re in the room, I’m playing this thing,’ she’s going to be like ‘What? No.’

“But I have no doubt in my mind that it’s going to grow, it’s going to expand. We’re obviously doing stuff with Fallout 4…”

Fallout 4 VR has been announced to release on PC for HTC Vive sometime in 2017. There’s no word what other VR devices may see its launch.

shyt ain't coming to no PS4. Idk why that game keeps being brought up on Reddit PSVR.

The PS4 can't even run the game at a stable 30fps and you need at least 60fps for the VR to work. The game would need to be downgraded something fierce to even work and it probably wouldn't even be feasible/would need to be built ground up. what they could do is make a Fallout 3/NV remaster that's 60fps and has VR support. That'd be more feasible but even then, Skyrim being 30fps and 4K/30fps on PS4 Pro would still not work.

Sony Reveals Slate Of New PSVR Games

Sony Reveals Slate Of New PSVR Games

by JAMIE FELTHAM • MARCH 22ND, 2017

PlayStation VR (PSVR) is set to have a busy few months with big releases like Farpoint and Starblood Arena, but Sony is also looking ahead, today revealing a new slate of VR titles coming from Chinese developers.

These games are all being created under Sony’s China Hero Project, which supports developers in the country. A total of nine new PlayStation 4 games have been announced, many of which will be supporting the VR headset. You can see all the games in a round up trailer below.

So let’s take a look at what was actually announced for PSVR here. Below we’ve got full trailers and more details.

The Walker, from Haymaker

This looks like the most promising title in the group, offering fantasy combat with swords and spells. The trailer shows off a lot of gameplay set in highly detailed environments. A player first uses a gun to take down minion-like enemies, but also slashes with a knife for melee combat. Bigger enemies introduce themselves later on and you can enfuse your weapons with special powers to help bring them down.

The X Animal, from Internet Stars

This is apparently a casual VR game that aims to capitalize on the sense of space that VR provides and wants to offer users different experiences.defeat enemies that appear along a line. It’s complete with some pretty wacky music.

Pervader VR, from Light & Digital

Again, it’s difficult to tell what the developer is going for here, but this is hoping to create a memorable story and an emotional experience. The trailer is using concept art, but a VR experience showing data all around the world is an intriguing concept. Expect elements of survival horror, based on the end of the clip.

The video also offers another look at Project Boundary, a first-person shooter that has promised VR support in the past, and zombie shooter Kill X. Interestingly the latter is now shown as a third-person shooter likely for non-VR play. The game’s page suggests PSVR support is still on the way, though.

No release dates, or even confirmation of a western release, for these titles yet, but keep your eyes peeled.
