Nah screw that. What's the headset anyway? 720p or something like that? Anyway the resolution is rough most of the time I can't imagine how crappy a 3D movie would look through the headset. I mean, it's interesting, I'll try it out, but I suspect the quality will be complete garbage.
The headset isn't 720P it's 1080P. 980 x 1080 per eye.

I've played games in Cinema mode on the PSVR and while it is obviously lower quality than the TV, it's not that bad and with this update seemingly improving the cinenmatic mode quality that's great. Plus I'm also using a Pro.

Just watched Dredd 3D using the new PSVR mode. Very impressed. The 3D effect is more natural than using active shutter glasses on my old 1080p Panasonic plasma. A couple of times I noticed that the resolution was lower that a native full HD screen, but nothing major. I did notice some multi-coloured pixel shimmer in dark scenes (though strangely not in the pure black background of the credits), which looked a bit like the not-quite-black of the OLED panel that you see in some games.

Overall I was very impressed. A better effect than either active shutter or passive polarised glasses.

I also tried out the "sidetone" feature that I just found out about. I don't think it's new, but it captures sounds from the headset mic and sends them to the headphones. I tried it on level 5 but I could hear myself breathing. Dropped it to level 2 and it's enough to hear if the wife or kids are wandering around without being too distracting. Useful if you want to have some awareness of what's going on in the real world when your eyes and ears are in VR. Apologies if this is old news, but it appears in the 'audio devices' system menu when the PSVR is powered on.

I'm impressed with it. It's a lot better quality than watching through our 3D TV with glasses (passive). Just watched my daughter's copy of Frozen it looked great.
Couple this with the fact cinematic mode has been updated to look much crisper... this is a fantastic update!!

Just tried Hugo 3D after updating the PSVR firmware to 4.5
I have to say I'm impressed! Film looks great in large screen mode and the 3D effect is as good as the film makes it. I'd say it's really immersive with the 3D audio adding to it somewhat.
Only negative I'd say is how comfortable it will be after an hour+.
To sum it up it's like sitting in your own private IMAX with a huge screen and perfect 3D effect as there's no glasses.

I've tried the force awakens, Jurassic park and pacific rim so far and I'm impressed with the results. I love watching movies on my 3dtv but this beats it which I didn't expect to be honest.
Zero cross talk that I can see, nice depth and pretty impressive with the Pop out moments.
It's very close to a cinema 3D experience, the force awakens in particular seemed really close to what I remember from viewing the movie in 3d at my local Imax. The screen might not be as crisp as that screen but its definitely improved since the update.

:lupe:

Man idk if it's because I haven't tried the Playroom in such a while but man the added clarity from that game on the Pro is really obvious. On the reg PS4 when you first start and that floating bot is on your right it's kind of blurry/pixelated yet on the pro it's much sharper and less pixelated. Things look clearer. Feels like you're at proper HD pretty much. I also have the beta update(joined a sharing/waiting list from Gaf). I started up Persona 5 since that's a text heavy game. Looks clearer I'd say but I haven't used cinema mode in a while but it was decent enough to where I didn't mind playing like that for a while.

Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin pre-orders include original Psychonauts

Pre-orders for the PlayStation VR-exclusive Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin include the original Psychonauts, which is currently available as a PlayStation 2-on-PlayStation 4 title, developer Double Fine Productions announced.

While Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin follows the story of the original game, there is no need to know what happened in the first game in order to enjoy the virtual reality entry, according to Double Fine. However, there are some parts of the story that will make more sense if you played the original.

In addition to the original Psychonauts, PlayStation Plus subscribers will also receive an additional 10 percent off of Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin‘s full price of $19.99.

Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin will launch for PlayStation VR on February 21. Watch the launch trailer below.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew delayed to May 30, adds U.S.S. Enterprise

Ubisoft has delayed Star Trek: Bridge Crew from its previously planned March 14 release to May 30.

The company also confirmed that in addition to the U.S.S. Aegis, a ship created just for the game, players will also have the option to serve as a solo captain or officer in a crew of up to four players on the U.S.S. Enterprise, the ship from Star Trek: The Original Series.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew will be available for PlayStation VR, HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift.

Sony files patent for Vive-style PSVR tracking device
It looks like PSVR could become even more immersive.

HTC's current virtual reality tech. Functioning as an external projector, the device would use lights and mirrors to map the player's real world movements straight into PSVR. While Sony's VR offering currently uses a camera to detect light from the player's headset, the existing tracking limits users to an incredibly small space. With light often interfering with the PS4's camera, if this new tech makes it to production it could not only give gamers more mobility but also potentially provide a more accurate and immersive PSVR experience.

While merely filing a patent doesn't guarantee that the tech will ever see the light of day, Sony investing in a more immersive PSVR experience makes a lot of sense. Being able to physically walk around a virtual world does wonders for creating a feeling of presence and if it makes it to market, this new device could help PSVR stand toe-to-toe with the more technically accomplished Vive.

Interestingly, the patent states that the tracking device is wireless, suggesting it would connect to a PS4 through either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. With the competition already announcing wireless peripherals of their own, it's no surprise that Sony may be following in their footsteps. The patent gives no indication, however, whether the tracker would be an add-on for the existing headset or incorporated as a part of a PSVR successor.

PSVR was released last October. Since then, Sony has kept quiet about the tech, omitting sales numbers from end of year press releases and failing to announce many new titles for the platform at its last conference. Yet with more bundles hitting the shelves and Sony's recently released PS4 Pro offering a noticeable bump in VR performance, these patents help suggest that the company's not done with VR just yet.

It turns out Mr. House was too cautious. The headset, PlayStation VR, has been scarce in many stores, especially in Japan, since it went on sale in October. In an interview at his Silicon Valley office on Friday, Mr. House revealed PlayStation VR’s sales for the first time, saying consumers had purchased 915,000 of the headsets as of Feb. 19, roughly four months after it went on sale.
