Given, we've only done this two (and a half, technically) times since then, but it's interesting seeing this messaging getting out on launches after the PS3/360. I believe the assumption is that people are looking for and expecting the same jump we made going from 480p at best to HD with that gen. Unless something equally revolutionary comes along in display technology, that shyt is never happening again, and people just need to enjoy games, and the other great but less impressive improvements for what they are.
