My 2013 iMac cannot handle editing 4K in Davinci resolve at all, it stutters, pauses and just cuts off when I’m trying to edit.
:mjcry:

ima look into a M1 Mac mini this weekend

I dont do much video editing but I do have a M1 Mac Mini and its pretty damn fast; I upgraded from an old ass Macbook Pro and have zero complaints.

Make proxies or transcode the footage to a file format that is less resource intensive, chances are the files you're working with are a derivative of mp4 which is notoriously unfriendly w/ CPU allocation.

Transcode your footage to Pro Res or DNXHR/DNXHD, those are intermediary codecs designed for editing workflow. The files are much bigger but the resource allocation (for your CPU/GPU) is much better.

If you don't have the hard drive space for prores or dnxhd, make h264/mp4 proxies (low-res duplicate files with the same aspect ratio) inside Resolve.
