No Whammies!!
1. Nice. I had the Mark 1 version and I’m always surprised looking back at some of my old photos how many of my favorites were taken with that camera. You have a really good piece of kit there. I gave mine to one of my former players and I miss it.

2. Shoot RAW, always. If you want to get something up on social media fast, shoot RAW + (Very Fine) JPG. For the shot you posted above, I would expose for the highlights (the sky) and brings the shadows (the rocks in the foreground) up in post. Shooting RAW will give you the necessary room to balance shots like that out.

Manual focus can be handy in certain situations, especially in your post further up trying to get shots through fences. @KBadd answered your question for getting those photos right. RAW and shooting Manual mode will give you the most control over your shots, it will take time to get it but once you do, you'll see you have way more creative control.

It just goes to show how impressive Google's software is that it can automatically figure out in software how to make a visually pleasing photo instantly.

Thanks. I've finally learned how to manually focus the camera, so I'm making progress in that way.

Since you mentioned manual setting, I have a quick newbie "what am I doing wrong" question. I took these nearly identical photos today, one with the Sony and one my Pixel 4 XL.

Sony RX10:

Google Pixel 4:

I notice the sky in the Sony version of the picture is way "overexposed" compared to whatever software magic Google is automatically working on its version.
What camera setting has the most effect on something like is? Is it the "Exposure compensation dial" ?

If you shot that in RAW you can pull the highlights down in light room and bring back a lot more detail in the sky.
You can make the foreground pop a little more by playing with the shadow tones.

As a newbie, it looks like what I really need to do is start playing around with the AutoHDR settings:

Did a wedding for a friend recently, reminded myself why I don't do them regularly. 8-10 hours on your feet all over the place, peeps constant need to capture everything with their cell phone and be in the way, camera equipment gets tiresome at the end of the night, shooting outside in harsh sunlight or through trees is a pain in the ass, wedding attendees want to fight the dj over music, etc.

It's probably been answered a million times, but what portable lighting are y'all using? Preferably something that needs no plugs. Or y'all lugging a generator around for the studio lights?
I have the apurture 120d 3 light kit and v-mount batteries

The only reason the A7siii can't do 6K video is because of the 12MP sensor. With the A74, they tout that as a true hybrid camera, so I can see them shooting for 6K because it will have a higher resolution sensor than the A7siii. It's been at 24MP for a few iterations, if they push it up some to like 30 or 32 I think it could do 6K.

Either A74 or the A7rV is my prediction for their first 6K shooter, I could be wrong and they wait longer to do that since the A7siii doesn't shoot 6K but yea...

:manny:

I'm just going off of how crazy they went with the A73... nobody was expecting them to put everything in there like that. It's really a great hybrid camera, the r series is their professional/commercial photographer's camera, so I expect the 4 to be a very capable video camera like the 3 is now.

I see those specs for video and can’t help but be impressed with how Panasonic continues to punch way above its weight class with the GH5 and still destroy the competition as far as price.

And offer the S5, which is essentially a full-frame GH5, at $2K.
