You are 100% right. I feel the same way that video is in higher demand. There's still many opportunities for photo and always will be, but the amount of times I've been asked if I do video is super high.

Printing your photos needs to be a priority for every photographer as well. It's a totally different experience actually holding a photo of your or seeing on someone wall. I follow and study a few photographers who don't even really deal with digital deliveries. Most of their money comes from printing. I definitely want to start selling prints from my site soon.
That's a fact. Seeing your work physically is different.

I plan on selling prints as well, I have to redo the copywriting I came up with for the ones I was planning on selling on my business site because we recently switched from Squarespace to Webflow and I lost all the pages I had set up as Product Pages.

You hate everything about it?
:picard:

There's shooting it, editing/sequencin it, coloring it, visual effects etc...

There's a lot of sub areas that all play a huge role in the final product. I don't even know which aspect I enjoy the most when I think about it.
yeah, thats why i hate it... its a god damn production and its under valued on many levels. My disdain probably stems from the fact that i'm in LA, and no one wants to pay for shyt, and I'm not a business minded person, so I dont get any enjoyment from going back and forth with people about money.

Shooting video is probably the most tolerable aspect of it, but editing is the most undesirable part of it(i dont like tedious shyt) :manny:

i also dont think that video is inherently anymore powerful than photo, its just in high demand, all of this shyt is disposal being most of what people do is disposable.

Printing is bout to be my thing. trying to do two photo books by the end of year and maybe two galleries. lets see if mans can pull this shyt off tho

Just from talking to friends over the years, I've realized that footage lives longer for most people. My guy lost his pops a few years ago, and his moms this year, I remember him telling me he loves that he paid for his wedding to be recorded cause he gets to watch his pops interactions and just him living on the screen for a short time again. I know that's magnified by 10 now with his moms gone too.

My home girl just lost her pops a few weeks ago. She hit me up because she wanted to interview him back in the fall of last year (he had been battling cancer and going through treatments) They ran an accounting business together since she got out of college in the South Side of Chicago. I recorded it for her, it was her sister and herself just chopping it up with their pops, asking him questions that future generations wouldn't have a chance to ask him... just about who he was and his life

:mjcry:

She hit me up after he passed and was just like, "man this video of us is like a gold mine"

:wow:

In the grand scheme of things, videography/cinematography are descendants of photography. Video is literally images in motion, so I look at them both as meaningful in terms of expression and just documentating life. I just feel like you have more leeway with video to connect more with people in ways that you simply cannot with a still image.

That's why a truly powerful image that stands through the testament of time is...

All of this is pure facts.
Also, Iโ€™d have to look it up again, but I could have sworn I read that something like 75% of all internet traffic is supposed to be video within the next year or so.

:manny: i think they are the same thing.one just moves. But i'm more of a documentary type, so photo stories is where my mind goes, not just the single image. but this is a losing battle for me since video is king now... so i'll bow out gracefully. :russ:

i heard something similar. thats why IG purposely puts more eyes on videos than they do photos now.

For a beginning photographer just looking to do local shoots what camera do yall recommend? Or are phones of quality now?

Local shoots of what?

Camera varies. Depending who you ask you'll get a different answer as far as what camera to get. Most people here have Canon, Nikon, or Sony cameras. More importantly it's the lens that will make the shot good. A good lens will cost as much or more then the actual camera. Also understanding things like "Rule of 3rds", lighting, and aperture can make a picture go from average to great. Cheap cameras can take great pictures if the photographer knows how to work with the tool they are using.

Don't know much about the newer iPhone and Androids to answer how good they are, but I'd think a real camera would be were to start.
