The a7riii is definitely a beast, being able to crop in 50% into the photo and still getting ridiculous resolution :wow:.

You're probably looking at the 85 f1.4, if you haven't already check out some comparisons between that and the 1.8. Most say the difference between the two don't justify getting the 1.4, especially since these are beast in terms of iso and noise.
Nah, I've actually been looking at the 1.8 seriously.
I know exactly what you mean about the difference not being justifiable.
The price difference is like $1,000 too. I'll be fine using the standard Sony lens for the 85mm instead of the G master version.
I went with the G Master version for the 16 - 35 mm because I wanted a constant 2.8 throughout the focal range. I think the regular model is like 3.4 or something like that.

I need some 5 figure gigs before I can get a 2k lens right now.

I've been thinking about the 10-18mm for a while now because it's one of the few E-mount crop lenses that works on full frame sensors without the vignetting. So I'll be able to use it on my backup cam A6000 and my main cam without much compromise.

I have the 85mm, f1.8, it's a dope value and it's not crazy big like others at that focal length
I feel you.
I'm still doing pretty well for myself with my day job so I don't mind dropping that kind of money on gear for the company.
Last year I only cut myself one check from the company. About 60% of what I made, I re-invested back into the company with gear.
This year I haven't cut myself a check yet.
After that big Navy gig, I haven't used any of my day job money on the business. I've just been taking whatever we make and rolling it back into the company.

Amen. Setting up camera for optimal image quality makes editing so much easier.

Editing is a job in itself though. Still learning how to do that better every day

A lot of peeps do not realize that. When I did portait work, especially glamour, ladies wondering what takes awhile to do post work. I showed one of them one day, she understood.

yal still using cameras or has everyone evolved to phones now?

i still have an old Nikon D1300 that I used maybe twice

I'm still using my Canon 7D, got my 30D in my bag.

Same. Everything I make goes right back into the business. Whether it's gear or subscription fees

No doubt and that 16-35 Gmaster is a beast and totally worth it compared to the f4 imo. Check out that Tamron 28-75m f2.8.

Do yall ever struggle with deciding whether to focus on video or photos only or really going the hybrid path? I decided I was going strictly photos but the times I have created video I love that too.
I started focusing strictly on videos which is why I got the Gh5 first.
As the business has grown clients have been asking for photos to be bundled with the videos so I've gotten more into photos recently which is why I got the A7Riii.
I enjoy both equally.

This was the goto for Canon shooters if you didn't want to spend the 4-figure price tag on the 24-70mm f/2.8 L. No complaints about it that I've seen, used it a few times.

I went the hybrid route because I felt it would bring more value to the table. Filmmaking is a more powerful medium in this current climate IMO.

In a lot of ways, photography feels a lot more disposable to the masses. Everybody has access to a high quality cameras in their pockets at all times, and it only has to look good on a phone screen. Photographers know the deal and the process, but most just look and scroll right to the next thing on their timeline.

Video lives longer...if it's good. There's a lot of garbage video out there too, I just feel like the earning potential and impact is higher in that lane

You are 100% right. I feel the same way that video is in higher demand. There's still many opportunities for photo and always will be, but the amount of times I've been asked if I do video is super high.

Printing your photos needs to be a priority for every photographer as well. It's a totally different experience actually holding a photo of your or seeing on someone wall. I follow and study a few photographers who don't even really deal with digital deliveries. Most of their money comes from printing. I definitely want to start selling prints from my site soon.

You hate everything about it?
:picard:

There's shooting it, editing/sequencin it, coloring it, visual effects etc...

There's a lot of sub areas that all play a huge role in the final product. I don't even know which aspect I enjoy the most when I think about it.
