I travel alot and I just bought a Canon Powershot so I can take decent pics when im abroad. Im very new to photography and just realized that most people use apps to edit the photo to make them look better. So far Ive been playing around with snapseed and lightroom. Any body have a tip for someone like me thats very new to this?

The question is a bit too broad.
I liken photography to the music business.
People can provide you a list of all the best plug ins, the best speakers, mics, etc. and it'll do absolutely nothing for you unless you first master the basics.
You can say "I want to build a house. What do I need?" and the responses would essentially be "Either go to school and learn how to build a house, or find someone locally who can mentor you".
For photography (or almost any other business) I would recommend you familiarize yourself first with how to properly capture an image.
Learn about exposure, framing, color saturation, shutter speeds, the looks of different focal lengths, etc. etc.
Once you have a solid understand of the basic elements, then you can look into different software packages and dive into the world of post processing.
Apps, plug ins, etc. are just tools. Lightroom is a powerful and relatively easy tool to use. But please don't make the mistake of thinking software is going to fix a bad photo.
There's a ton of people in here with different levels of skill and knowledge.
If you narrow down your interest it would be much easier to help.
Otherwise, your starting point should really be YouTube.

Any recommendations for file storage in the cloud? I have hard drives backing up my photos/videos, but I'd like another option.

These are from DUB Magazine car show in Chicago back in '05, ImportFX was my website back then when I did car show coverage. Car shots if I had enough light I would shoot high ISO otherwise use my tripod. Model shots were with my external flash on a moveable arm. Vida Guerra was guest model at the show, I was able to pull her aside for pics in and out of vehicles, crowd followed her everywhere too. Over the years I had gotten to know most of the regular traveling models that I could grab aside for a mini-shoot at the show.
