Shoot. Those pictures are great.
I haven’t gotten heavy into photography yet. All my work is focused on video right now.
I have a GH5 with a metabones speedbooster, a sigma 18-35 mm art lens, a canon 50mm, and a few lumix lenses. I ordered the sigma 50-100mm that I intend to use for photography but it’s currently on back order.

they are
I remember my first camera was the gf2 mirrorless and it was way ahead of the game back then

only reason im still with canon is out of loyalty and the value my lenses hold
Speedboosters change all of that. I copped one and using canon glass on my GH5 has been a huge upgrade

Nice shots. The b/w looks like you lit her from overhead or bounced from the ceiling, I like the smaller aperture on the shot as to bring out details like her earrings. Color shots looks to be lit from a bit lower, I like that lighting a lot better, I think the aperture used on the b/w would be great on this shot. Looks like the depth of field is very narrow. Prime lens? Looks tack sharp.

So dope. Im getting into filmaking myself. Going to shoot a few documentaries and eventually films. I'm looking to upgrade my Sony Alpha 6000 to either the GH5 or the Sony alpha 7 III. What made you go with the panny?

Does the m43 formfactor not make you worry about limited depth of field options?

What type of vids are you making btw?

Went with the GH5 for 4K 60fps at that $2K price point.
Depth of field isn't an issue, low light performance can be but honestly, it's not as bad as some people on the net would have you believe.
With some native prime lenses I found the low light performance to be solid in 95% of situations.
About a month or so I put down about $10k in more equipment to keep the businesses moving forward. Picked up a metabones speed booster that allows me to use canon lenses on the GH5 as well as improves the amount of light I'm getting into the small sensor. Copped a cage with a top handle and side handle. A ninja inferno monitor which gives me the ability to film 10 bit 4K 60fps in ProRes. A sigma 18-35mm art lens and I have a 50-100mm sigma art lens on the way. Copped some new gear for the studio as well (UA Apollo X6, Adams Ax7's and Avantone MixCubes)
I launched my LLC in 2018 and had an amazing first year.
We've already done 10 (training) videos for the Navy, a few realty walk throughs, videos for local businesses, and a few government contractors.
I'm still working my 9-5 but the plan is to limit my hours to part time by the end of 2019 and put my primary focus on my business. I'd love to be doing this 100% full time by next year but I'm patient. If it takes longer I'm cool with that.
Here are some links to some of our videos that we've been allowed to make public.

Those look really good! All those were shot with the GH5? Well damn, i need to reconsider. I already have my sony alpha 6000, and i have some high end lenses i bought that i wanted to continue to use. I figured the Sony alpha 7 iii would be the next logical move. I may end up getting them both as they seem to be equal in recording capabilities, although the panny seems a bit more sophisticated in its feature set.

Are you self taught or did you go to film school?

Man i have like a million questions to ask you breh.

If you're not in a rush, just wait until the specs for the Sony A7SIII drop. There's rumors swirling about it having an 8K sensor in it.

If you're serious about this shyt, you can teach yourself a ton. Film school is great for networking and giving you structure, but unless you need a push and/or aren't confident in staying focused on putting in the work on your own just go to YouTube University and start shooting/practicing

Yes all of these were shot with the GH5 in 4K 60fps on 50mm, 16mm, and the kit lens that comes with the GH5.
I haven’t shot any video with the speedbooster set up yet. Based on some test footage things are definitely about to look much better.

I didn’t go to school for any of this. Just YouTube and Google.

That Sony camera @GoldenGlove mentioned is a great option for video but I would say it’s real benefit would be in post production. No one is watching 8k (or even 4K) footage. Most of all our work is going to end up on the internet and get compressed.
That 8k is going to be great for video in post because you can shoot in 8k and punch in to 4K or 1080 and still have an incredibly clean image, giving you the effect of several different focal lengths.
The GH5 is a fantastic starter camera for someone looking to go pro eventually. The in body stabilization is amazing, 4K 60fps is a God send. In the proper setting the GH5 will give most cameras a run for their money.
All that aside though, just go with something that fits in your budget and work on your technique. The camera is just a small part of the equation. You have to develop your skill sets before driving yourself nuts about which camera is best spec wise or whatever.
In your budget, consider things like prime lenses, stabilizers (I use a Zhiyun gimbal most times), camera cages, lighting gear, microphones, etc.
I could go on all day. I’ve really fallen in love with video recently. Before 2018 I was dedicated 100% to pro audio recording.

I've been wacthing youtube vids on film making over the past few weeks now doing research. I've narrowed my choices down between the GH5 and the Sony alpha 7iii. The 7iiiS has no release date, but im looking to purchase over the next few weeks honestly.

And @Kamikaze Revy why do you like to shoot in 4K 60fps? I thought most movies were shot in 24-30 fps? Im mainly going to be shooting documentaries, some music videos, and some occasional survey work.

Also, are there any good youtube channels you recommend? I''ve found some really good ones like D4Darious, but need a few more.

I'll be picking your brain on all the other accessories in the future. As far as cages and gimbals, i have some good ones i've seen. The DJI Gimbal unit looks like the one i'll end up going with.

Thanks alot for the good info bro!
