I may grab an idea for something, I will put my own spin on it or change it so it isn't exactly the same. I think it would be hard to mimic a technique as you wouldn't know the specifics (lights, camera settings, etc.) unless that info is provided.

Quick question, do you guys look at the works of other photographers and mimic their technique to improve on your own?

at most, I might try to find the location and then look for my own inspiration

sidebar: I was shooting a graduation for my daughter over the weekend, and I had a couple parents come to me asking for the pics, problem is they were all bad, only 7 of them came out remotely useful after hard editing. help me out here.

As for the pictures taken, where they in the “raw” format? I’ve been watch a bunch of YouTube videos. And they all seem to be using that format for image correction. What made the pictures so bad?

I only shoot RAW, but the ISO was on auto and it was cranked all the way up, so when I plugged into my Pc, the noise was
even trying noise reduction, they look waxed out. speedlight didn't help much either.

Sounds like you need to get a better lens for low light. I had issues for a little bit when I first got the GH5 in low light. I scooped up a sigma lens with 1.4 f stop and it immediately showed great improvements for my low light shots.

I have a 35mm 1.8
but my dumb ass left it home this particular day had to use the kit lens for lowlight
my 70-200 f4 would've worked better but that's in the shop right now

You were just shooting because it was your daughter's graduation right? If they aren't good then just say they didn't come out well and you not sharing them. It's not like they paying



Just say you didn't have the right gear and the lighting was bad and keep it moving.
