Are any of you brehs self taught? I'm looking for a photography workshop in my area but Im in bumfukk maryland and there isn't anything available.

If you're self taught where would you recommend I start as far as teaching myself?

@GoldenGlove pretty much hit it with his post. There is so much material out there from web to books for learning, however that practice trial and error learning is priceless. When I bought my 1st dslr, I had a phorographer friend tell me "you will have to learn that camera". So I did, stuck my nose in the manual and did some reading on dpreview.com, hit up the local book store and practiced till I was happy with what I was shooting.

i'm self-taught in a sense that i didn't go to any class or anything. I just used youtube. And online tutorials. And the main thing is just practice. There were times when i would go out and all i would shoot are reflections in puddles, or another day i'd shoot long exposures, or just panning shots. I've had photography friends where we all go out and shoot as a group and the people that don't know their cameras, or don't know basic exposure triangle stuff just kind of lag behind the rest of us...and this is person that usually has the newest and "best" camera.

YouTube is the greatest university on the planet and there's a ton of good YouTube channels. The one I like the most right now is Adorama.

It shows what you can do with just one flash and understanding lighting.

Also checkout meetup.com. They might have some photography Meetups in your city.

Was at the NYS Wrestling tournament this weekend.

A few candid shots. Still going thru it all...
(I didn't have a 70-200 so I had to make-do with a 70-300, f4.5-5.6. Results were awful shooting in Aperture Priority. Switched to Manual to get the shutter speeds I wanted. Not great but I'm happy with how some turned out. I was in the stands and I did not have a monopod with me)
