WTF kind of cameras y'all using to capture these perfect blacks?
Blacks are controlled using the histogram both during the shot and also in post processing.
All the way left is absolute black, all the way right is your highlights. You just want to kiss one side and the other of the histogram, otherwise if it's too much in the absolute on either side, it means you're actually losing information. When you take a picture, check the histogram because if it's too blown out one way or the other, that means you'll be messing with it in post, and there's no guarantee that you can recover the lost information without too much digital noise being introduced.
The peaks tell you how much of that darkness or lightness can be found within the picture.
