@shutterguy
I have an old camera. It's a Canon DS6041 (aka 300d). I plan to upgrade but I want to play with this first and also take some classes. I have a 28-80mm lens right now. Can you suggest another lens for me please? My wife tried taking some pics at my sons basketball last week and they looked horrible. Very dark, and red eyes everywhere. Any help would be appreciated.
The Digital Rebel aka 300D, that was my first dslr, good camera. Well, if you want a quality lens that performs well in low light and not have to spend a fortune I would look at the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8. A comparable Canon version is $1,600 so the Tamron is a steal at $500. It will work great in low light and picture quality is outstanding, I have a few friends who have this lens and they are very happy. You can probably find a good used copy for $280-$440 depending on where you look...........

If I'm going to spend that much, do you think I should just go ahead and spend $500 on the Nikon 3200 that comes with 18-55 and 55-200 lens?

Lens compatibility, Nikon uses different lenses for certain camera's. Your D3300 will work with AF-S Nikon lenses, that why the price differs.

Compatible lenses
"Autofocus is available with AF-S and AF-I lenses; Autofocus is not available with other type G and D lenses, AF lenses (IX NIKKOR and lenses for the F3AF are not supported) and AI-P lenses; Non-CPU lenses can be used in mode M but the camera exposure meter will not function
The electronic rangefinder can be used with lenses that have a maximum aperture of f/5.6 or faster"
Thanks just picked one up from Beach Camera for 150$ shipped.
damn i need to get that 24-70mm
