Manual mode?

What about natural light indoor photos on manual mode?

The mode I use is DMF/Zone autofocus. It's a combination of auto and manual.

Slightly hold the shutter to lock focus, but if I adjust the lens it will go into manual mode. I go full manual when I'm going for a shot with a lot of bokeh

what body do you use with the 24-105
i got a chance to cop one for $350 used but reading up on it it said it doesn't do it justice on a crop lens. i have a bud who uses it on a crop.

as for using the 100mm outside, i read that the 85mm (1.8) is best for portraits.

and internets say the 70-200 IS II pawns anything in that range. but they also say the 100 is the best macro lens. for years i''d wanted the 70-200isii so kept my 55-200 kit around but hardly use the long range since i don't shoot outside much. over the last few years i've broken down my niche to indoor macro.
outside i'm a zoom kinda person. and the 17-85 USM (crop only) appeals to me.

if the full frames had a swivel screen i'd have been owning one the moment they were released and just not fuq with the cropped lenses. t2i to t3i was game-changer to me and changed my style of photography. my style is ninja-munkie type.
the t4i touch screen was nice but i got them for so low brand new that i just had to flip them. i had one used that i owned for a few days but kept the 18-135 STM which is what i used mostly with the 60D and now 70D. i got the 70d with a 18-55 STM but sold it already.
they say the 18-55 has better image quality than the 18-135 but i'm not sure i can give up the zoom. image quality over everything else, but for kit lenses i can't give up the zoom.
i've also flipped some 60Ds and had one come with a 28-135 but it couldn't compete with the wider and quieter 18-135 stm.
I mainly use the 5D Mark 3 now, but I use a 7D rarely. 85 is good on a crop and FF, on a crop it gives the field of view of a 135 and on FF its an 85 both are good focal lengths for portraits..The 100mm is mor like a 160 on a crop, the 100mm is good if you are on FF for portraits. look into the 135L tho it is supposed to be one of the best lens for portraits(once you get to FF), and yes the 70-200 f2.8 is mk 2 is one of the best lenses you can buy but at $2,500 it better be up there lol(it has the IQ of a prime while being a zoom). I would hop on the 24-105L if you can get it for $350 at the very least if you dont like it then you can sell it for at least $500 and make a few dollars on CL.

But ive have the 18-55, 75-300,55-250, and the 18-200 and the 24-105L gave me instant gratification as soon as I used it. Images just look better than the rest. even tho the 24-105 isnt the greatest L lens it is better than what you have 9/10 unless you are working with some primes. Also the 24-205 is weather sealed, and has a constant f4 aperture so you dont have to worry about it changing as you zoom in.

And you sound like you got a camera hook up, send me an 85 1.8 bruh bruh :feedme:

need a general purpose lens as an upgrade from my kit lens.

Never used either, but I would stay away from the canon 50mm f/1.4, I was originally going to get that one, but decided not to once I keep reading how the auto focus motors on it die..I ended up with the one by sigma, but I would stay away from the canon lens unless you can get it cheap.

I dont know how your budget is, but the 50mm 1.8 (nifty fifty or plastic fantastic) is less than $100 and is supposed to be pretty good bang for your buck, I would go with the 17-55 2.8, and if I had an extra $80 i would look on CL for a 50mm f/1.8

when it comes to getting shyt i'm more likely to get bodies and kit lenses (24-105 is kit for some full frame) than real specialized shyt like a 85 or 65mm. i can probably get a 70-200 IS II before i get a 85 because it's a holy grail. most ppl rush to get the nice stuff but give up on photography. so i don't know what i could get next. most ppl get rid of their shyt over the internet then i get the stuff that's bulky.
i offer ppl cash based on what i can flip whatever they're selling. then turn around and sell it to get my money back. so if i get my hands on a good lens i'll want to sell it for as much as i can. back in the day i have sold some shyt on sohh with coli discounts.
if i get a 85 it would be part of a package. since i don't need a 85 i would sell it.
but right now money is tied up on other cheaper shyt that's selling quicker with a better profit.

the 50mm 1.4/8 is a must have for everyone so...

no point of buying the 1.4 just to sell and get the 1.8

zoom is nice to have. i'm a zoom kinda person. but i think most ppl will advise the 50 over the 17-55 for it's 1.4 and prime image quality.

edit: plus real heads with full frame don't use the 17-55 2.8 cause it's only a crop lens. not sure the equivalent is for full frame. the 50 1.4 can be used on both.
the 17-55 2.8 is an improvement over the kit lens cause all kit lenses are sh1ty and meant to be cause they're used to sell bodies..
for general purposes i guess the 17-55 2.8 is a good buy.

I have both also. One thing I can tell you about the 17-55mm IS is that it's a very BIG lens. It's almost as long as my 70-300mm IS and definitely wider. The 50mm is a itty bitty baby compared to the 17-50mm.

Aside from the noticeable size difference the 17-55mm is an excellent low light lens that doesn't get soft when turned down to 2.8. Where as the 50mm turned all the way down to 1.4 is very noticeably soft. I like the 50mm turned all the way down for close ups and very thin depth of field "artsy" shots that the 17-55mm just can't turn out. If you're looking for an all purpose lens then the 17-55mm is definitely the right choice. The 50mm is a bit more specialized, but definitely worth having in your bag in it's own right. I would keep the 50mm and get the 17-55mm also

I hear Tamron and Sigma makes these types of lenses as well. Are either of these brands good?

tamron always wins bang for buck cause they are cheap. sigma lenses deliver. image quality and color, canon lenses almost always wins over them in review sites. i don't think canon would allow the other companies to beat them on their own shyt.
it's still better to have a tamron lens than not have one.
i tend to go with canon for the resale value.

speaking of tamron in that range.. i was part of this auction when my 60D died last week.
earlier in the year in march when i had my 60D i got another 60D 18-135mm for $413 shipped off ebay. then resold it for $630. when i got it i just relisted it. i compared the 18-135 to the 17-135 STM but it just wasn't seeing it so sold it all. camera was in great condition too but so was mine so i didnt see a need to swap..

contact the seller and ask her whether she still has it and make her an offer on the lens.

I have this lens and I love it, it's pretty much my walk around lens. I have had some issues with it on my 30D body with Error 99, I have to send it in to Canon. I use it primarily for portrait photography, it reminds me of their L glass lenses.
