My bad I was thinking of the D5000 instead of the D5100
but he can still get the D5100 used on amazon for cheap.
Those 2 lenses may have VR but that still doesnt warrant the cost in my opinion just cause their brand new.

I bought my 18-55mm kit lens on craigslist for $60(Crack Head Price)
your friend should easily be able to find one for $100 with VR on craigslist

The 55-200mm Lens always goes on sale through out the yr brand new for $150 just gotta check slick deals all the time. Right now its going used for that price on amazon who knows what he finds on craigslist probably even cheaper.

I like Lightroom because Its way more user friendly compared to Photoshop.
To me I need photo editing to be as easy to understand as possible.
Plus theres hundreads of videos on youtube teaching how to do certain things in lightroom
