from what i've researched, t2i is slightly better.
For me personally the only way to go is full framewhen I decide to upgrade from my Nikon D90.
So Ill be making step towards FX in the next couple of yrs.
plus ill have a few lenses i can still use

Hell naw man my camera is better than that and I paid $527
You can easily go on craigslist or amazon and find the D5100 for way cheaper.
Best thing anybody wanting to get into photography can do is buy their equipment used.

But that comes w/ extra lenses, is that needed? What camera you got?
My bad I was thinking of the D5000 instead of the D5100
but he can still get the D5100 used on amazon for cheap.
Those 2 lenses may have VR but that still doesnt warrant the cost in my opinion just cause their brand new.
I bought my 18-55mm kit lens on craigslist for $60(Crack Head Price)
your friend should easily be able to find one for $100 with VR on craigslist
The 55-200mm Lens always goes on sale through out the yr brand new for $150 just gotta check slick deals all the time. Right now its going used for that price on amazon who knows what he finds on craigslist probably even cheaper.
Also the D5100 doesnt have a auto focus motor built into the camera like the D90. That means your friend cant buy older D version lenses to save money. He'll have to buy AF-S lenses that have motors built in them.(Cost More)
