Notes
Keeping Johnson: My #1 question heading into National Signing Day was whether or not Michigan would be able to hang onto TN four-star wide receiver
Nate Johnson as he appears to be set on taking three visits in three weekends heading towards February 3rd.
On Thursday, 247Sports National Analyst Barton Simmons reported that Notre Dame has increased interest in Johnson and that he's cancelled his Vanderbilt official next weekend in favor of a potential visit to South Bend.
Right now, it appears that Notre Dame is a very legitimate threat to land five-star athlete (but likely wide receiver) Demetrius Robertson out of Georgia. That would likely put them out of the running for Johnson's services. It is of note that he has not been offered a scholarship by the Irish yet either.
Either way, while we're not calling it a nail-biting recruitment at this point, it appears other elite programs are taking notice of the Michigan commitment.
Dwumfour: I'm leaning more towards a flip for the Wolverines this weekend with NJ DT
Michael Dwumfour, who has been on campus since Friday morning after getting in very late on Thursday.
The Penn State commitment really wanted a Michigan offer earlier in the process, and after the staff gave him one, it's given him a lot to think about. With Penn State's defensive overhaul and more and more pressure building on James Franklin in Happy Valley, the belief is that Dwumfour may prefer to sign with Harbaugh and the Wolverines.
Would this possibly seal the deal with Rashan Gary? I'd say yes, but with the top recruit in the country there's no such thing as a lock until the pen hits the paper. That being said, a Dwumfour commitment would be a bigger plus for the Wolverines than a Walker or any other prospective 2016 commitment at this point.
Browning: Add one more reason why five-star linebacker
Baron Browning may be a legitimate target for the Michigan coaching staff going forward: his brother Barry played for
Jim Harbaugh at Stanford.
"I'm familiar with Coach Harbaugh from his days with my brother," Browning said. "Michigan was one of those offers I was really hoping for. What was funny is that Coach Mattison told me yesterday that they had offered me last winter when he came by and that they had considered me an offered target the entire time. They're a great program with great academics."
Browning remains committed to Baylor, with most of the information being conflicting as to whether or not his pledge is solid or not. Look for Michigan to make a run at him.
McCaffrey: Received more intel that suggests the Wolverines are in really good shape for 2016 Top50 overall prospect and top quarterback target
Dylan McCaffrey.
Michigan has put in by far the most effort here, as we've written, and he's not a kid who we believe is interested in following the legacy his brother is creating at Stanford. Instead, we see him as someone who will want to blaze his own path at a program of his choice and Michigan under Jim Harbaugh is the place we believe he will do that.
A great supplement to our intel is

Bits
- I put in a 247Sports Crystal Ball on 2017 Top100 receiver Tarik Black to Alabama. I strongly believe they are his top school right now, so as long as he's a take for them, that's where I'm currently expecting him to go. Michigan is one of the few schools that could become a contender.
- Michigan is the early leader for 2018 in-state ATH Kalon Gervin after the Wolverines offered this week. He's a 2018 prospect, so we'll just leave it at that for now.
- We're placing our bet that Michigan's first junior day of the year will be on February 6th for the home basketball game against Michigan State. The Wolverines have been putting out invites for a prospective junior day the last month or so and it could be a good to great group of visitors if they can get some of the national names they're working to Ann Arbor.
- Another five-star in 2017 we keep hearing Michigan may push for is Graham (WA) Kapowsin offensive tackle
Foster Sarell. We'd put his recruitment as a current Washington/Stanford battle right now, but the Wolverines reportedly intrigue him.
- Top50 overall athlete Devon Hunter continues to insist he will visit Ann Arbor sometime this spring. We remain in the "believe it when we see it" category, but there's no doubt Michigan would love to have him up.
