Malone-Hatcher is one of ten in-state offers the staff has extended in the 2017 class, and of that group he's likely one of the top targets on their board. The Wolverines are a heavy 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite for his services.

Other in-state prospects likely to get a visit in the next week will be Detroit (MI) King's Ambry Thomas, Detroit (MI) Cass Tech prospects Jaylen Kelly-Powell and Donovan Peoples-Jones, Orchard Lake (MI) St. Mary's prospects Joshua Ross and KJ Hamler and Oak Park (MI) offensive lineman commitment JaRaymond Hall (among others).

Sparty troll Valenti was in rare form with his fake concern for Quinn Nordin. If a guy can't trusted enough to be a houseguest for a night, how could u trust your son under his stewardship for 4 years? MSU fans got sick fantasies

Michigan Back on the Road: Thursday Recap

Michigan Newsletter

Michigan coaches were back on the road on Thursday, and there was action all over the country as the Wolverines look to finish strong heading towards National Signing Day. Wolverine247 recaps the events

Top Target check-ins
The main aim of the winter visitation period is to close strong with the senior class, and Michigan's coaches immediately got to work on doing so.

Linebackers coach Chris Partridge was in New Jersey and saw Top100 ATH Jordan Fuller, three-star wide receiver Donald Stewart and three-star defensive tackle Michael Dwumfour. One important note regarding the New Jersey visit is that Michigan was well aware that Rashan Gary would not be at school today, as he and his mom departed for Los Angeles for his USC official visit. There's nothing to read into behind that, and the Wolverines remain in solid shape with the #1 overall prospect in the country.

Defensive line coach Greg Mattison was in Houston, TX, mainly to see defensive targets Dontavious Jackson and Chris Brown. At this point, there's really no indication as to what either prospect is going to do, but in Jackson's case, Michigan's chances remain low compared to some others on their board. Still, Houston is a pivotal spot for the staff, and Mattison almost certainly saw some elite 2017 prospects while in the area.

Defensive coordinator Don Brown was in Florida and was with two of his top remaining targets in Joshua Uche (DE) and Jonathan Jones. Uche will officially visit Auburn this weekend before heading to Ann Arbor next weekend. Some believe Florida is the favorite, but the Wolverines will get their shot. The story with Jones likely remains the same as it will either be Michigan or Notre Dame.

Mike Zordich visited the City of Angels and is scheduled to go in-home with cornerback David Long, who may be the top remaining target on Michigan's board not named Rashan Gary. Greg Jackson was discovered in Olathe (KS), checking in on four-star safety Isaiah Simmons, who appears to be one of the staff's top unoffered targets on their recruiting board.

Finally, Jedd Fisch was in Miami (FL) today with his eyes on three-star athlete Keyshawn Young, who is still favoring Michigan with visits to Louisville and possibly Miami on the docket before National Signing Day.

2017 Stops
Jim Harbaugh's focus actually looked to be more towards the 2017 class on Thursday, as he visited U of Detroit Jesuit high school and extended an offer to 2017 athlete Scott Nelson, who was recruited by Don Brown at Boston College.

Another stop from Harbaugh, who was joined by Tyrone Wheatley, was Orchard Lake (MI) St. Mary's, where they saw a bevy of prospects but most notably 2017 targets Josh Ross and KJ Hamler. Michigan also saw 2017 offensive line commitment JaRaymond Hall and 2018 offer Marquan McCall.

One of the more important stops for the staff was Los Angeles (CA) Hawkins, where the Wolverines are looking to become factors for four-star prospects Joseph Lewis and Greg Johnson. Don Brown saw 2017 prospects Trajan Bandy and Guy Thomas from Miami (FL) Columbus, with Thomas receiving an offer from Brown while he was there.

Tight ends coach Jay Harbaugh was in West Michigan for the majority of the day and his first stop was to see Top150 linebacker/DE target Corey Malone-Hatcher, who remains a top target for the staff. Harbaugh also saw three-star tight end Keegan Cossou (Greenville, MI/Greenville), who has remained on Michigan's radar for a while now.

Notes
- Interestingly enough, I was told to hold off on a 247Sports Crystal Ball on Michael Dwumfour to Michigan heading into this weekend's official visit. That doesn't mean it won't change, but I was originally set on putting one in tonight. He and his parents should arrive in Ann Arbor tonight.

- We're told that 2017 offer Guy Thomas is wide open following an offer from Don Brown today. Thomas already has a great offer sheet, and will be a tough pull regardless, but it sounds like Michigan has a shot.

- Michigan is still the prohibitive favorite for Corey Malone-Hatcher in our mind. At one point, we believed he would verbal to the staff in the near future, but that obviously never took place. Our best intel suggests the Wolverines remain in good shape, however.

- The Wolverines are also in great shape with Detroit (MI) U of D three-star Scott Nelson after today's offer. We'll have more on him in the near future, but this is another situation where an early offer could pay dividends.

- Los Angeles (CA) Hawkins 2017 Top50 ATH Greg Johnson says he will take an unofficial visit to Michigan sometime this spring. It's a date he's mentioned to me in the past, but after a visit from Mike Zordich, he seems more set on coming up.

"I'm beginning to learn more about Michigan," Johnson said. "I didn't talk to Coach Zordich today, but my coach said they're really interested in us. I really like Coach Partridge and Coach Zordich there, so it will be about learning more about the staff and learning about the program when I come to visit."

Expect Joseph Lewis and Jalen Hall to be on that unofficial as well, as the Wolverines look to make a dent in a top California program.

- Tight ends coach Jay Harbaugh has been interested in Greenville (MI) three-star Keegan Cossou for a while, and today's visit gave him a better idea of where things stand.

"I'm definitely in the mix for them at tight end," he said. "It was relieving to hear that after my coach talked to Coach Harbaugh today. I have high interest in Michigan. It was great that Coach stopped by. My school was really pumped up about it. He stayed for an hour of my basketball practice and had a long conversation with my coach. I'm looking to come up there for one of their junior days, but he told my coach they haven't nailed down a date yet."

Cossou holds offers from Central Michigan, Miami (OH) and Western Michigan. Michigan State has also inquired on Cossou and he's visited East Lansing a few times.

Partridge Named Linebackers/Special Teams Coach

Michigan Newsletter

In an official release from Michigan on Thursday, interim linebackers coach Chris Partridge shed the interim label and will be the permanent linebackers coach going forward. He will also coach special teams. The release is below:

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach Jim Harbaugh announced Thursday (Jan. 14) that Chris Partridge has been permanently added to the coaching staff and will serve as the team's linebackers and special teams coach.

"Chris has a proven track record as a successful coach," said Harbaugh. "He has brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm to his work as our director of player personnel. I know that same passion will be exhibited in his work with our student-athletes."

"I came to Michigan because I wanted to work with the best and learn from the best," said Partridge. "I couldn't have a better mentor than Coach Harbaugh, who shares my vision that the student-athletes come first. I am honored by his confidence and for the opportunity to continue to serve this incredibility institution."

Partridge had been the team's director of player personnel in recruiting since joining the staff in January 2015 until Coach Harbaugh appointed him to coach the team's linebackers during the bowl season.

Competing against the No. 19-ranked University of Florida in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl on New Year's Day, Partridge helped coach the Wolverines to a convincing 41-7 victory. The stout Wolverine defense held the Gator attack to just 28 total yards of offense in the second half, including two yards in the third quarter. The team's two leading tacklers against Florida were both linebackers (Joe Bolden, 7; Desmond Morgan, 4).

Partridge came to Ann Arbor after serving as the head coach at New Jersey's Paramus Catholic High School, a position he held for five seasons (2010-14). While at the helm of the Paladin program, Partridge grew a football program listed 4,250th nationally and 112th in state of New Jersey to the top-ranked team in the state and No. 4 nationally by USA Today. He coached and mentored more than 30 Division I football players during that time, as well as various All-America players.

Prior to his stint at Paramus, Partridge served as the defensive line coach and assistant to the special teams at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.

Partridge coached at his alma mater, Lafayette College, in Easton, Pennsylvania, as the secondary coach and assistant to the special teams coordinator.

Partridge earned his bachelor's degree in government and law from Lafayette College in 2003.
