The Dylan Crawford recruitment has been a Michigan sandwich.
I've written this a few times on the board, but Crawford and KJ Costello were all but ready to commit to Michigan a couple summers ago after they took a June unofficial to campus for one of the days of junior camp.
Crawford was offered on that trip, and told me immediately that Michigan was his leader. We already felt very optimistic about their chances with Costello as well. However, the visit to Michigan was the first of a twelve (yes, twelve) school trip that included stops at Notre Dame, Tennessee, Florida, Florida State and I believe Alabama among others. Because of that, the former Michigan staff essentially held off a commitment from those players until their school tour was finished up. Then, in a weird move no matter what way you cut it, the staff offered Messiah deWeaver two days later and took his commitment less than 24 hours later. In effect, Michigan may have cost themselves the early commitment of both players. It was an interesting situation at the time.
After the Jim Harbaugh hiring, Crawford remained pretty high on the board while Michigan pushed for long-shot type players who made early decisions (Austin Mack, Eli Stove, etc.). After that, it was a lot of persistence (key word) as schools like Oregon got involved late. This is fully my opinion, but I believe Michigan has led in this one for probably about four or five months now with Oregon being a major (but temporary) blip on that radar. The biggest question for me in his recruitment was whether or not he would be a Duck if they had the room (which they don't). Part of me leans towards yes, and I got close to flipping the Crystal Ball on him.
Crawford is a quiet kid, but he's also one that's close to Top100 cornerback David Long. We have Long pegged to Michigan via the Crystal Ball, and I expect Crawford's commitment to help the Wolverines in finishing off his pursuit as well.
