This show is so damn good. The writing is amazing, visuals are stunning, acting is top notch (confident David was almost as unnerving in his own way as shook & scared David playing Rainbow Connection was, and Aubrey Plaza is killing it), and the music fits perfectly.



It's so great how they plucked out and completely re-imagined the concept of this mutant character to examine and play with visualizing mental powers & mental illness in television the same way Claremont & Sienkiewicz used the comics medium to explore the same subject matter by having the New Mutants running around in David's mindscape. It's so on point to the spirit and intent of the original story while being totally and completely its own thing.

Was gonna make a post but this one sums it up well, well said.

That don't mean Lenny is real because: 1), she was David when it happened and 2) his sister can see Lenny, 3) Syd can saw the Shadow King in his actual self and 4) David can project other people.

My theory is when Syd was David and lost control of David's powers she pushed the Shadow King out. That's why when Lenny reappeared saying to David that he "killed" her....that really happened. The Shadow King is a parasite so, Syd temporarily pushed it out while as David.

Lenny was real because other people have acknowledged she exists. Not just Syd. The Division 3 guy in the first ep said she was killed and stuck inside a wall.

Define "real". Yeah they're in a mental hospital but it's (probably) the Astral Plane. The Shadow King doesn't want anyone to know he exists and that entire group does....so he's probably going to try to drive them crazy.

I'm saying Lenny IS the Shadow King. As the male Kerry stated when he realized there's an alternate parasite inside David's mind, he was stating that the Shadow King's consciousness was only in there, but he's a real being. Also, it is rather odd that the other one that supposedly "killed" was Lenny. Everyone else was transported to their rooms.

Cary said he was a real being at some point in the distant past, and he's been inside David's head for 30 years. The Shadow King has been around since David was a baby, he was briefly shown in the opening montage.

I guess what I'm asking is, if the Shadow King was around back then why would he need a physical body? What would be the point of pretending to be a human woman, when he's already in David's head?
