The songs you listed are examples of why rappers shouldn't battle anyone outside of their generation, it's the same reason people laughed at the thought of Missy having a chance against Janet. Older artists have the advantage of time and nostalgia. As I've said before, crossing eras only works in R&B.

While I agree that some folks need to do research, you'd also have to take into account the audience that this would attract. "Scenario" is probably one of the better posse cuts in Hip-Hop ever, but it may be more essential to older millenials as opposed to younger millenials. I was born in 93 for example and while I love that song, T.I.'s "What You Know" means much more to me and a lot of my peers alike.
