Someone bringing you into a field doesn't give them the right to screw you out of money you earned.

The majority of people who have financial disputes have never seen expense reports. Mal never having a job prior is irrelevant.

From what I understand(and correct me if I'm wrong) they gave them an excel spreadsheet with the accounting and Mal and Rory and they thought it was BS because it was on an excel spreadsheet. And after that they wanted to do an audit.

Now if they don't like the excel file, it could be whatever format they wanted it in they'd still not trust the accounting. Ok, then ask Buddens and the white dude who does the books for receipts etc. Once you go for an audit you've broken a level of trust.

excel isn’t sufficient. They were owed audited financial statements that were assured by a CPA firm

an audit is not about suspected fraud. Rory and Mal were owed a % of profits. How would they know Joe is properly paying them without an expert and independent party verifying the numbers

An audit is nothing more than verification from experts that your numbers a reasonable depredation of the business

you need audited financials for any legitimate business
