1.streaming to 2 rokus
2.i have hella externals already but im gonna start off with 3 internals with whatever I build and add more later
3.yes they are all on externals
4.no dont really need to back anything up
5.yes

And the build doesnt really have to be cheap, I just dont want to waste money when I couldve did something different

Right now im kinda leaning towards doing a pc build that can handle everything

Props

Bout to check the link out now

I'd just tear open them externals and put the drives into a server. You could also just plug them bytches up to the server. I personally wouldn't run plex media server off of my main rig. You def don't want to be sitting there while having Plex handle multiple streams/transcoding. Nor do I think you would want it on 24/7. My server uses up about 30W idle while my main PC takes up 150W.

Backing up stuff may not be a concern for you now but that could change in the future. It was easy for me to give this the cold shoulder until my archive grew so large that it would be a huge hassle to replace the data if a drive went bad. A server would leave this option on the table for you. So would a beastly PC. I just rather not have my main PC performing parity checks and the whole nine.

All I know is case, motherboard, cpu, hdds....what else would I need for the server?

Just noticed you in BM so you should have a Micro Center. Walk up in that bytch and get the following,

Intel i3-3225 $119.99
ASrock Z77 Pro4 LGA 1155 Motherboard - $69.99 (-$40 off when purchased with i3-3225/i5-3570k)
NZXT Classic Series Source 210 $37.99 (-$20 MIR)
Corsair CX430 - $49.99 (-$10 MIR)

Get the PSU from Newegg if you can wait.

Corsair CX430 - $39.99 (-$20 MIR)

Also hit them off with this coupon, http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5318085/1.pdf

Should be $247.96 before taxes going the Newegg for PSU route. I didn't include any HDD's since it seems you have those already. After rebates, $207.96 excluding taxes you may have had to pay. :wow:

Nah. Production is ramping back up and initial demand spike post-shortage has been filled. We'll see a steady decline for the next several months. I'd say by summer 3TB will be $100, 2TB $75.

Any old PC you have laying around can be used. You can use the 120gb for the OS, and everything else you can throw into a storage pool so that it all looks like one drive. As far as the OS is concerned there are many options you can choose.
