I didn't know you were in CT. I am more surprised that the market is so good out there. Looking at the map though I guess outside of the south there's not much going on. Everything else is too far from anything big. Yall can work anywhere though so a big crib in the middle of nowhere is definitely doable. shyt is hot down here (dont ask me how). Home prices went up 6% over the last 12 months

We just moved in August coinciding w start of wife's job. Gotta be somewhat close to Yale for her.

Everything here is a suburb, it's weird not having a metropolis that all the suburbs orbit. Just little/midsized towns sprinkled around.

Definitely need a big house for in laws and guests, and they are on the market in abundance at decent prices, we're being picky tho.

My friend left Charlotte a year ago, it seemed like that city was ready to bubble when I visited back in like 2014 around this time

I just refinanced my place last year and hired someone to redo the bath rooms in my condo and now I want to update the kitchen but want to do It by myself. Any one have any tips on remodeling a kitchen without spending an arm and a leg?

Closing next week Qualified for the IHDA grant and I'll find out if I need to bring cash to close. @beaniemac you heard of that grant? Guess it was just implemented within the last year

Yeah, I am under contract. Got a closing date of 4/15/2016. The home inspection went real well, since the house was built in 2009, only a couple real minor things to be done. Appraisal is this week and financing is all in order, so should be good to go and moving in the weekend of 4/16!

Sucks you didn't hear back on your offer. It is def a game and people want to nickle and dime ya as much as they can. I think my sellers were real motivated, as I put in an offer on a Thursday, got a counter on Friday, re-countered Friday night and they accepted about an hour later.

Owned my townhouse for 2 years now, but I'm thinking about selling it to get something smaller since it is way to big for one person. Should I fix it up(kitchen remodel, some interior doors need replacing and front door replacement) or just sell as it?

I'm buying new cabinet doors and drawer doors for my kitchen, installing soft close rails, new hardware, and putting in recessed lighting. And will probably paint the cabinets white. This is what is looks like now.

An electrian will do the lights for $400 and it would cost me about 2k for the cabinet/drawer doors, rails, and hardware.

My offer expired, they are going with another buyer that has to close on their house before moving fwd.

I'm over it, was a good reminder to not get attached to these houses that aint yours.

i usually say that in most of the RE threads in here, it's hard not but you need to detach your emotions from the bidding process. of course the house is where you plan to raise your family etc, but until you close it's solely a business transaction. plus things usually work themselves out, and you will likely be happier in the house you actually end up in and look back on this one without regret.

Gonna have someone come at and build some custom built-ins in my living room. This is the one I put together. It looks ok, but doesn't look all that special.

And here what the new one should look like:

The quote they gave is around $4000 and the cabinets will have lights.

And I finally connected the in wall speakers in my crib. Being able to have music playing throughout the house is the goat feeling

I'm not sure when I'll get it done, but I'll def post pictures. I was thinking of just stripping the cabinets I have now and either repaint them or stain everything. Either way it's still way cheaper than upgrading the entire kitchen.

if the cabinets are in good structural shape there is no need to do more than that. even just a strip and refinish will make the whole kitchen look brand new. and i like white cabinets, i saw you mention that before. keeps the kitchen looking open and fresh. that's what i did in mine too.

I think the cabinets are original to the house (built in the 90s) because they seem a little beaten up. I'm gonna strip one and repaint it just to see how it turns out. Some of the doors have cracks but I'm not sure if that's because of the bad paint job or due to years of the wood expanding/contracting.
