You have to be proactive once you buy a place.l Recommend getting a service plan for the heating system. Your utility company has different plans likely. There may be problems that the home inspector didn't note or wouldn't have cut.

Would also recommend researching and getting service plans that cover plumbing system and electrical system.

DIY shows give people a skewed view about how difficult home repairs actually are. Those videos and books are good for letting people know the materials necessary for repairs and maintenance. Less likely to get ripped off that way as the contractor lists cost for materials on the bill.

IYO, which projects do you think are DIY and which ones do you think should be left to the pros? I know when my parents bought their house, they they did the laminate blowing themselves, but hired someone for the tile for the bathrooms and the kitchen. My friend Swears up-and-down that I can do the tile by myself, but there's no way I'm bothering with that shyt. I just feel like whatever I'm supposedly saving in labor costs, I'm just spending in power tools!

Buy the vinyl flooring with padding on the back. easy installation. just need a utility knife.

What if I'm installing over concrete? Since I have to put a moisture barrier there, wouldn't I save money if I bought vinyl or laminate without the padding since I pretty much have to buy underlayment regardless of the pad?
