Haven't seen Merc come out of the gates like this since the hybrid era formula change.

And the other cars running Merc engines are right up there. So unless Ferrari told Haas and Sauber to turn down their engines, they could be in for a long season.
And judging by the onboard video through the chicanesā€” didnā€™t sacrifice any speed through the slow corners putting down the extra power.

Rumours are Ferrari will bring a spec 2 next week, so we will see. Will they be as agile as Merc though, that remains to be seen.

Lewis looking quick. That W11 is looking lethal. We may be set for 2016 levels of domination. Weā€™ll see what adjustments Red Bull and Ferrari make...

Man y'all are killing me, still haven't found the time to watch :mjcry:. I got the last 15 minutes of the morning session and the first 5 mintues of audio from the afternoon session.

Ferrari just said they were running low power engine modes and high fuel loads all day.
Ferrari would never :picard:. We all know preseason testing is where they like to show their hand.

Seems to be a new plan. Ferrari didn't open drs once in their runs. If their engine is on par with Merc though, they will have to do a lot of work in the aero department.

The new Merc looks great, and we know upgrades will come by Melbourne as well.

Re: the steering wheel controversy. One Sky analyst put it well, come Australia, if Mercedes are miles ahead, it's going to get banned.

They basically have all the teams scrambling to figure out what it does and see if there is a way they can copy it.:wow:

It looks like it changes the toe on the front wheels. Someone at Red Bull told me it looks legal but no one has thought of it or risked breaking the rules.

It's in a grey area, but I think it will get banned because this is too big of an advantage. Better straight-line speed and waaayy better wear on the front tyres

Hopefully not, I need Lewis to completely dominate the first rounds and keep em mad:ohlawd:

Steering (called DAS - Dual Axis Steering) is FIA approved as per James Allison.

So up to the teams to copy.

Looks like it provides gains for front tyre warm up and tyre life.
The main idea is to reduce drag on the straights and the by product is improved tire wear.

Iā€™m guessing it passes the rulebook because ā€œactiveā€ suspension is probably defined as the suspension being adjusted by the car itself.

Iā€™m impressed because its a relatively simple solution.

Exactly, and this is adjusted by the driver

That steering trick :blessed:
And it has the added benefit of improving tire wear and heating. We already know Lewis is a wizard at managing tires. nikkas not ready for 2020. And you just know we havenā€™t even seen the true power of their recent engine development.
